It began with a wink. At first it had come out as a sign that he was, in fact, interested in her as more than a friend. After the episode in front of the Royal York though, the wink had been swiftly upgraded to a teasing gesture he sometimes threw her way as a playful reminder of their ‘affair’, so to speak. If by any chance any of the members saw the exchange, it could be easily chalked up as an innocent, friendly, you’re-a-girl-who-can-kick-ass gesture. Ed winked at Greg sometimes. It’s all cool.
After a couple of weeks, Jules would sometimes say something along the line of ‘It’s been an eventful day, but the shooting range sounds pretty nice’. It meant that in spite of the craziness of the week-- three warrants, one nutcase of a woman going bonkers trying to get her son back and an active shooter in a public place-- he was still welcomed to spend the weekend in her place.
Once, Spike and Lew had been in a deep discussion about what kind of flowers Lew would have to bring his current girlfriend and Echinocereus Rubispinus had smoothly escaped Sam’s mouth. Both of his teammates had simply given him a funny look, but the disapproving frown on Jules’ face hadn’t gone unnoticed. She had had the lovely pink tinted cactus for the last six months, a birthday gift from one of her brothers and had put it on her bedroom windowsill. If only she knew just how sexy she looked when she was upset.
When she said that her aunt from The Hat was visiting, it meant that she was having a serious case of PMS and he needed to stay away from her house -and- the locker room cos’ hell hath no fury like Julianna Callaghan scorned.
Just last week she told Sarge that her renovation was on hold since she hadn’t dropped by to the Home Depot to get more supplies. The message between the lines was that the next time Sam planned to visit, he’d better show up with Terroni’s -and- some thinner, or probably some Santorini Sky. Ha! He got it right this time. Jules was one independent woman, so it soothed him somehow knowing that she would let him help her with the house.
They started dating only three weeks ago, but they had been sharing lots of secrets.
“I think I’m going over to Timmy’s,” Lew pushed his chair back before looking around. “Want anything?”
“Thanks, nothing for me,” Sam responded.
“Cream no sugar,” Jules replied, glancing at Sam for a second. “And a cheese croissant, please,”
The blonde rookie immediately perked up and looked up as she abandoned her seat and strut out of the briefing room. Plain croissant meant plain croissant, but cheese croissant was…
He waited two full minutes before standing up, trying not to appear too eager. “I need to check on my phone,”
The SRU might have some codes and signals, but so did they.
