I'm going to try to update this thing more often, because for some reason, I do feel more orderly and focused when I do. It sort of gives me a repository to empty out the day's thoughts, so they're not floating around as much.
Going home was nice. I'm really proud of my brother and hanging out with him was great. I'm really proud of how well my mom's adjusted to her situation. It was kind of tough focusing on my memo for class, but I had to do it, so it got done. Had dinner with somebody I've known for a very long time but never hung out with...pleasantly surprised. I didn't have enough time to see a lot of my friends. Also really disappointed in one of my friends. Oh well...there's no shortage of people to hang out with. And of course, spending 4 out of 6 days with Brittany aint bad.
Finished the Shad Treatment while I was home. It was pretty funny following the David Plouffe book with the Shad Treatment. Both are about a campaign, but they differ in every other way. For the record, the David Plouffe book is good, but he just seems to lack a real strong personality and it hampers his writing. I really learned a lot, though, about campaigns and stuff, and that's really my big takeaway from that book. The Shad Treatment is one of my favorite books I've ever read. I'm possibly being melodramatic, but the history and the drama and everything rolled into one made it a wonderful book. Plus, taking place in Virginia didn't hurt. It's sparked interest in me to learn more about some of the things it alluded to. On top of that, I have a book club discussion planned with a pretty swell girl in regards to the Shad Treatment.
Checked out Team of Rivals today...looking forward to reading that.
Currently watching Gone with the Wind on DVD. I watched the first of two discs today. It's very very good. I'll just leave it at that for right now. I'm on kind of a Civil War kick, so that's hitting the spot. Over this week, I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox and Leatherheads. From what I remember (which is most of it!), Leatherheads was pretty good. However, Fantastic Mr. Fox blew me away! This is the Wes Anderson that made Rushmore, not the one that made Life Aquatic or Darjeeling Limited. I loved loved loved this movie and would recommend it to anybody, young and old, cool and dumb.
Kinda bummed about being back, but I've only got 10 more days to power through. I've got a paper due Thursday, Tuesday, and next Saturday and finals on Monday and Thursday. Then, I come home for 18 days, which will be nice. I've just gotta stay focused and motivated.
I've got my interview with the DGA at 9:30 tomorrow. If this goes well, I will be very very happy. I feel like I have a better shot with them than with the DSCC and it'd be a great fit for what I want to do.
Till tomorrow.
