I have a hard time going to work everyday because it seems like my funniest ideas, concepts and creative energy are all at toxic-high levels at about nine a.m. I attempt to remedy this by doing a lot 'sneaky art' around the store. I've already been doing this 'sneaky art' for a while (little tags here and there, some funny faces drawn on concrete walls around SE, scratching WEEN in to the pavement, etc.). I can only imagine what life would be like if I could just focus on art and managing ANYTHING with out having the pressures of a very full-time job.

I’ve been spending a lot of time inside my building or hanging out on the dock smoking cigarettes with Guy, our neighbor from across the hall who is a ridiculously talented artist and pretty successful at that. He's a pretty awesome dude to bond with. I'm bad at hiding my enthusiasm at times like these. It's like I'm totally retarded. Maybe people like him take a shine to people like me because of that reason? It’s not like I’m focusing on my concepts and projects in a ‘quaint’ way. Quite the contrary, but I have much work ahead of me and improvements to make as I attempt to take myself seriously as an artist. I would never describe myself as serious. I guess I have a really hard time picking any kind of side, or mood, or candy bar.

So yeah, the new place is certainly working out. It’s just one big slab of empty concrete space. It’s cluttered at the moment, so we're getting a vast amount of shelving put in. Jason has been diligently archiving his works from the past year and developing a better portfolio. He's also quitting his job this week to put his full attention towards the book he's illustrating. We've been super productive. A website is on its way as well, but probably won't until we can attack our video work so we have more content.

Have you ever seen the BBC Documentary "THE SECRET OF DRAWING”?

It's amazing. In four parts, Andrew Graham-Dixon (who is only mildly hot, but that accent makes him at least a 7) delivers a plethora of information that will certainly make you think the next time you pick up a pencil. Part two opens with a long insight to Daniel Clowes, and then the series moves onto David Shrigley. Totally worth checking out.

I couldn't the HTML to post the first episode because I cannot read Japanese, so here's a link to PART ONE

PART TWO

PART THREE

AND PART FOUR. ENJOY!
