Oh my god!! *Emmett-like squeal* This is just lovely. I don't know how you do it with so few words, but I get such clear impressions of this scene in my mind -- the tree and the sweet scent and the murmuring leaves and Emmett's mixed feelings. I think we see on the show that Emmett never truly left...that he carried his home town with him wherever he went, even as he moved on to other places and other parts of his life.

Thank you so much! ♥

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it enough to squeal! You and I think exactly the same with regard to Emmett. Hazlehurst will always be a part of him. When you head down to MS, you should try and swing by there. It's a county seat and small, supposedly only 4,400 people. You could take some pictures for us. :)

Ooh, I didn't know there actually was a Hazlehurst! *squints at Mississippi map* Hmm, looks like it's about three hours from Biloxi, which will be quite a stretch without a car. Boo. But how funny -- the Google Maps directions from Biloxi to Hazlehurst include a 0.4-mile stint on Cowan Road!

That's what I'm talking about! There could be an Aunt Lula's all-you-can-eat buffet, or a Schmidt's Automotive.

It's called a rental car.
