Michael's friend Andrew and Kevin's friend William both visited Budapest recently. Andrew and Michael worked on a documentary about the city, and Kevin and William tried to tap into the Budapest
goth scene.
We went to Amigo's bar to see a Hungarian rockabilly band. Hungarian fans dressed and danced the part. Men and women sported pompadour hair slicked with pomade. Couples showed off their swinging dance styles on the crowded dance floor. Michael and Andrew videotaped me interviewing the lead singer after the show for their documentary.
Kevin and William brought us to Gyar Music Factory, which is on the southern outskirts of Pest in an abandoned factory complex. Goth rockers swayed like zombies to what William called
EBM music. I'd like to return to the area during the day sometime to photograph the old factory buildings.
We also went to
Shiraz restaurant, feasted on Persian food and smoked a hookah with apple tobacco for dessert.
