Flashpoint Paradox

Well that leak didn't take long to spread. I'm a tad worried about Warner Brothers/DC's reaction to the leak, so I'm posting about it in an f-locked entry here rather than at Tumblr -- although eventually I'll post this there too ( Read more... )

Pretty much my reaction to it. Though I'd expected the Rogues to start fighting Zoom once the whole bomb thing came out (or at least start threatening until he told them that the bombs would go off if they attacked him).

There really wasn't much incentive for Barry to time travel, but if they'd had the whole "Remember the day your mother died? It was meeeee Barry!" plot point then it makes so much more sense. Plus, I would've loved to see that on film. Though it's possible they were trying not to say anything about the New52 (where Barry has no idea who killed his mum, yet).

The art could be pretty strange. It was very anime, which isn't bad in and of itself, but they made some really weird choices for how the characters fit together. Out of all the muscles to emphasise on the Flash, shoulders and neck? Really? And how narrow was Wonder Woman's face?

Zoom was good, possibly the best part of the film. And his death, though gruesome, makes a lot more sense than in the comics.

I'm wondering if the reason for cutting out Trickster and Weather Wizard is because Trickster's got a lot of overhead when it comes to a fight (plus could potentially be someone able to disarm bombs) and Weather Wizard's too powerful without taking away from his character too much (and they did quite a good job of not doing that when it came to the Rogues).

Overall I quite enjoyed it (and will be buying it at some point because it's a Flash film, and like you say they need to be rewarded when they do it right), even if it felt a little rushed and the character design was all over the place.

Also, was it just me or did it sound like Barry was saying 'Thong' instead of 'Thawne'?

Yeah, the Rogues turning hapless once Thawne showed up was one of my chief complaints. They don't know how to get themselves out of the fix, and are really rather passive. It would have been nice for them to show some initiative and smarts, even if they couldn't solve the problem on their own.

I think most of the films are set in different universes, so I don't think they have to worry about continuity between this movie and future films. They obviously hint at the New 52 with Barry's new costume, but he's still with Iris and we don't see any of the universe-merging with Pandora. I'd expect most of the films in the future to be based on the New 52, though, and it sure seems like the next one is based on the first Justice League story arc in the Newe 52.

Superman (regularverse) in particular looked very odd, with the huge muscular body and tiny head. Of course he should look very buff, but his proportions made him look like some kind of stereotypical thug rather than one of DC's greatest heroes. Aquaman had a similar problem, to a slightly lesser extent.

I agree that getting shot made a lot more sense, but personally would have preferred it not be so graphic :>

In theory, Roscoe should be pretty good at disarming bombs -- he's built plenty of them, it was kind of his schtick in the Silver and Bronze Age. But he's also clearly dumber in the film than he is in the comics, so I guess either Trickster could be less intelligent if they appeared here too. And Weather Wizard could have his powers toned down like Mirror Master to make him less dangerous as well.

And yeah, it did rather sound like "Thong" :> Poor Eobard.
