Kisschasy Primer

Kisschasy Primer:

I hesitate to use versions 1.0 - 2.0 because the line-ups actually the same, so maybe it’s more a matter of:

Baby! Kisschasy:

(left-to-right: Karl, Darren, Sean, Joel.)

Not-so-little! Kisschasy:

(left-to-right: Sean, Joel, Darren, Karl)

The History:

History-wise? Okay, like. We have Melbourne and we have Darren - who drops out of high school because his school doesn’t teach music.

He runs around Victoria playing in numerous bands; vocals, keyboards, guitar and drums. Whatever. Meanwhile, Joel, Sean and Karl have been playing in Tenpin, a little local band. In 2002, Darren’s band collided with Tenpin at firstly: the Art House in Melbourne and then on the Warped Tour in America in May 2002. The two separate groups disbanded on their own terms and Joel figures, hey, Darren’s voice is pretty cool, so he calls the bloke up and together the four form Kisschasy at the end of 2002. By this point, the average age of band members is 17.

In their career, they've been support acts for: Silverchair, Powderfinger, Brand New, Panic! At the Disco, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and many more.

The Boys:

Darren Cordeux - Vocals/Guitar

Tiny. As in, like, Fall Out Boy-tiny. He’s adorable. Seriously. He’s a vegan and an avid animal-rights activist. He’s Youth Ambassador for Animals Australia.

He writes all the lyrics for the band (in the bathroom) and is actually wide-known for the fact that his front tooth is chipped (something credited to a fist-fight with guitarist Sean Thomas early in their career.)

The rest of the boys really leave him to his own devices.

Sean: I always like Darren's lyrics, but I don't always ask him what they're about because I prefer to keep that a mystery. It's bound to be some twisted shit I don't want to know about anyway.

He performs all gigs without shoes.

Darren: I don't play in shoes so my socks get sticky - so I ask for socks. Barefoot is too spiritual - I like to be faux-spiritual.

Sean Thomas - Guitar

(sorry about the watermark)
Pretty hilarious. Sean and Darren generally do the interviews together. This is the guy that punched out Darren's teeth.

Joel Vanderuit - Bass

Not a lot's really known about him. He was the one that recruited Darren and Darren generally refers to him as the 'emo' one but that could just be because of his new hair.

Karl Ammitzboll - Drums

Hot. Seriously. He's the 'muscle' of the band. Apparently eats anything and everything which the rest of the band finds both hilarious and disgusting.

He likes to wander into the mosh at gigs and when in Japan a girl apparently grabbed him and her scrawny boyfriend tried to beat Karl up. It didn't work coz yeah, muscle. The guy gave up and they went and had a beer together. ahah.

The Albums:
We're talking two CD's, and maybe I'm bias, but they're both really, really good.

United Paper People.

Highlights? Black Dress. Hands down.

Hymns for the Non-Believer.

Highlights: Opinions won't Keep You Warm, Spray on Pants, Real and Untouched, Ugly Birds in a Beautiful Cage.
