Doubt it's made world news, but the Queensland floods have been pretty horrific. I've never really been a part of a natural disaster before, and it's kind of terrifying, even if I'm on the fringes. Our house has flooded twice so far. Only a few inches of water downstairs(we live on a big arse hill, but the fact that we have a pool - one that I've ( Read more... )

Thanks, and yeah, I was kind of surprised any of it was making it to international news. This is kind of self-deprecating lol, and it's not meant that way, it's just I don't think international bodies pay much attention unless it's in NSW or Victoria. The devastation is pretty massive, but I'm also blown away by the people in my state who've seen so much in natural disasters over the last twenty years that they're able to take this in their stride. The news is full of people cleaning up broken homes, but also of people like, fishing and drinking lol. Also, given the flood is the size of France & Germany combined, the fact that there was an inland tsunami in Towoomba and that this has been going on for a week now, I think the fact that the death toll is currently at 8 people is incredibly lucky.

The only bad news is that our coast is home to all four of the world's maneater sharks (as well as the bulk of the rest of the non-maneaters) - we're the state that has the Great Barrier Reef, although they seem to be faring a little better up there I think, which is a relief - and they're starting to swim inland with the floods lol. Basically what I'm getting at is that there have been sharks in the streets lol, which is probably more scary than the floods.

And thank you! Haha, the bit above is so, so rough it's not even funny. And yeah. I do enjoy Merlin, but it's fail at any sort of realism kind of hurts my brain more often than not. I hadn't really thought of it being another planet, but that's actually a really cool idea.
