Doubt it's made world news, but the Queensland floods have been pretty horrific. I've never really been a part of a natural disaster before, and it's kind of terrifying, even if I'm on the fringes. Our house has flooded twice so far. Only a few inches of water downstairs(we live on a big arse hill, but the fact that we have a pool - one that I've ( Read more... )

Thanks, and I'm trying to stay safe? It's kind of hard still. But I'm almost surprised it made international news? Idk! Normally Australian disasters are only made a big deal of if it's NSW or Victoria. I'm honestly kind of flattered. People have been really supportive. It's pretty huge though, I guess. Apparently the area flooded is the size of France and Germany combined, which makes sense, given Qld is a stupidly large state, but also is mostly horrific.

The sense of devastation here is unbelievable. We're not even able to drink the tap water without boiling it because all the water treatment plants are shot due to the flooding, plus they're emptying dams left, right and centre which is making the floods even more ridiculous. It's just insane to me. We've been in drought for pretty much my entire life (very serious drought for at least the last 11 years). We weren't able to water our lawns or have showers for longer than two minutes. Every house had to have at least three water saving devices (half flush toilets, water tanks, etc) and another one for every additional water using device (like a pool). Then it started raining earlier in the year and it honestly hasn't stopped. It's horrifying, and us as a society and as a state just isn't equipped to handle it. The last time it rained this much was in the 1974 floods. It's just like, even the preventative measures put in place back then have done fuck all. =/ It's scary too though, because we're in the tropics here and the weather's always temperamental, but the annual summer cyclones haven't even hit yet (still hovering off the coast) which means shit's yet to get real.

It hasn't rained now for two days though (which omg, biggest relief ever), but since they're taking the opportunity to empty the dams, it's not made a huge difference to the water levels.

And lol, I do not know where Ke$ha/Tatlor Swift fic came from, I don't even particularly like Taylor Swift, but I'm enjoying writing it lol.
