saytemptation posted about Aston, a six-piece classical music ensemble from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music who are currently (amazingly) covering pop and r'n'b music. Songs like Lady Gaga and Beyonce's 'Telephone' and Rihanna's 'Rude Boy'. I mean, seriously.

Seriously.
- I finally got around to seeing 'Tomorrow When the War Began' the other night, and honestly, I loved it. It had its flaws and its moments of clunkiness, but I was so happy to see this imagining of the novel up on the big screen. The Tomorrow Series was such a huge part of my adolescence and, besides Harry Potter, was one of the few series I really count as being deserving of more than three books. It was such an awesome feeling getting to see it on the big screen without an American influence, because I seriously doubted they'd have the funding or ability to make it without Hollywood, but they did it, and it feels homegrown and real and Australian. Fabulous~ I also want to make note though of the female friendships in it. This is an action story about teenagers participating in guerilla warfare and what makes it work in the books is Ellie as a lead and her desire to protect the people she loves, in Homer and Corrie in particular, and I was worried they'd lose the deep sense of female loyalty in the film and they didn't at all. The friendship between Ellie, Robyn, Corrie and Fi was so, so present and one of my favourite bits of the film was when Corrie's boyfriend abandoned her and Ellie went back for her. I'm so over stories that portray male friendship as above and beyond that of women and the fact that this was so happy to illustrate awesome girls being bffs and saving each other and themselves instead of waiting for boys to do it made me ridic happy.
- I also saw 'Easy A' which I really liked. It was cute and fun. My only real criticism, especially after seeing 'Tomorrow', was the representation of female friendship. But whatever. It was fun. Plus, I have an epic soft spot for Emma Stone.
- TV! I'm watching quite a bit atm, not limited to Hellcats and Nikita in the new seasons which I'm enjoying, and then 90210 (!) which was fab and awesomely interesting for a teen soap and Gossip Girl, which omg, please may something actually happen this season, and Merlin, The Inbetweeners and Spirited still. It's awesome. I'm stoked on all the shows coming back, although I imagine it's going to be pretty terrible for my uni work lol.
