Episode Catch Up

During last week, when I was recapping the entire show for a friend of mine who doesn’t watch it, I realised that this show had bypassed ‘guilty pleasure’ for me and was entirely ‘pleasure’.
LIAM AND NAOMIIII. OTP OF MY HEAARRRTT. God, I love them, and I would seriously write epic amounts of fic if there was any fandom at all ever. Far out, I love them. It’s epic and fab, and I would even read Naomi/Ivy hate!sex over Liam if it existed, because that would be hot. Hell, threesome fic would be even hotter. That last episode too! When Naomi was crying! Omg. I love that Naomi and Navid are apparently bff’s now (which, wat? Anyway). They’re adorable. AS ARE LIAM/NAOMI. Which I clearly haven’t mentioned enough.
I’m glad people are starting to make amends in the show as well, like Dixon and Annie and Naomi and Annie, even though I dislike Annie with a burning passion. Navid and Adrianna too. I don’t like that the show’s trying to kick her out of the group, but I have faith that my three fave girls will be bff’s again in no time (this has nothing to do with reading spoilers), and I’m glad the drug-storyline is seemingly shorter than it was last time. I think they’re also dealing with it well, the whole she-gave-up-the-drugs-but-not-the-addiction thing. I think it’s believable (which is impressive for this show, lol) and I like that it’s something the show has chosen to address and not forgotten about.
Silver and Kelly’s mum’s death broke my heart as well. It was well-handled too. I shed a tear. I was emotionally manipulated, which I expect to be on a teen soap, so, hey, props. I’m also glad that Jen has finally been ~unmasked~ as the villain she is. Ryan can go get back together with Kelly now, kthnx.
Anyway, if you crapped out during season one due to the epic fail, I really recommend finding your way back in, because it has improved by leaps and bounds. It’s dirtied the characters up a little, and the writing has dramatically un-worsened, as has the acting, and it’s really actually a better teen-drama than Gossip Girl at the moment, which is a shame for the latter, but a compliment to the former.
GOSSIP GIRL
‘The Last Days of Disco Stick’ was hands down the worst episode of GG ever. It was seriously awful. I mean, the threesome plotline was overhyped and involved probably the worst three characters the show possibly could have used, and the fallout honestly wasn’t much better. The line about ‘two girls, four boobs’ legit had me cringing. Such a bad episode, I don’t even want to talk about it. (But the play and Hilary Duff singing? Omg. Just, no.)
Having said that now, the last ep was a lot better. Still not up to the standard of the first season, but it was nice to see a lot of older storylines bubble to the surface, like the Jenny-Eric-Jonathan debacle and Nate/Serena(!) in particular. I’ve always wanted to see a better end to the Nate/Serena dynamic because I feel that if you’re willing to cheat on your girlfriend/bestfriend, it’s got to be some pretty intense feelings. Plus, I always thought the pairing had a lot of chemistry and potential to be very interesting, so, whilst they’re not my favourite couple, I’m really glad the show’s revisiting it. On that note; however, we’re like, 11 episodes into the season, and Serena’s had what? Three? Four love interests? Slow down, writers, come on. I actually liked Blair again by the end of this episode, and I’ve always enjoyed her mother’s increasingly random appearances. The scene with Dorota and the doorman at the end of the episode made me smile as well.
Also, I feel the show needs to pay more attention to Blair and Serena’s friendship again, because, to be honest, I feel that that’s where the heart of the show is. Blake Lively and Leighton Meester have such an obvious off-screen like for each other, which really seeps into the characters. I do ship them, but I love them as friends as well. I feel the scenes where they’re wanting or trying to support each other often come through as the most emotionally genuine scenes of the episode, and Blair and Serena’s bit at the end where Blair told Serena to go to Paris with her felt real in an episode full of exaggerated emotional manipulation. Anyway, that’s my two cents.
HOUSE
I was a little behind on this too (three episodes, omg, fail), but it was one of the shows that was genuinely fun to catch up on. The quality of writing, acting and character development continues to astound me on House. Seriously. It’s fabulous. The level at which I feel for every character, whether I like them or not, is something I can’t say about a lot of shows, and I love that House is capable of turning me into a blubbering mess after every episode. ‘Teamwork’ was a really, really good episode. I’ve never been a huge Cameron fan, but it did hurt to see her leave. I loved to see her progression in terms of blame and guilt and her unreasonable desire to save everyone, and finally her understanding that it was time for her to walk away from it all. I hated House/Cameron earlier in the show’s lifetime, but it worked here, that unrequited love she experienced with him, and her anger and hurt that he’d ultimately corrupted Chase enough for him to kill someone. I like the fact that Cameron’s moral compass never deviated, even if I often didn’t like her stances, it’s good to have a character who is firm set in her beliefs, and I think her loss to the show is a blow to the production, but all in all, it was a good end for her character to have. She leaves with the same moral dignity that she began with on the show.
Anyway, onto much more fun things. Taub and Thirteen are back! I’m going to be contrary, and say that I actually loved the new team (Kutner!) even though it previously saddened me to see the old ducklings take a back seat as a result. The fact that the one’s still standing have merged makes me :D face a lot. I love Taub’s character. I love that he’s kind of weird looking and really a plastic surgeon but a secret-thrill-seeker. I love that he’s substituting cheating on his wife for diagnostics. I think it’s such an awesome twist on his character, and I think it’s good to have a character on the show in a relatively stable relationship. He’s the only really-married doctor the show’s ever had (Wilson doesn’t count, lol) and I think that’s needed. And Thirteen’s a good character too. I hope she becomes a lesbian again. I liked that better than when she was with Foreman.
House/Cuddy also continues to be one of my favourite things about this show. Pairing of my heaaarrrtt. They give me serious woobie face.I love how they work each other, play each other, how they hurt each other to keep from getting hurt themselves. I’ve shipped them since the first season, and to be honest (because I know a lot of fans of the pairing disagree), I think the writer’s are doing them justice. Their history is bubbling to the surface, and they’re never going to stop wanting each other, no matter what happens, but there’s never going to not be a long list of reasons why it won’t work. They’re a tragic pairing, and that’s one of the reasons they appeal to me so much. You want them to get together, but at the same time, you understand why it’s not going to be easy and why, ultimately, it’ll be incredibly painful for both of them. Plus, I kind of like Lucas. I want my huddy to happen, but Lucas is a good mid-point for Cuddy, and I love that he and House are sort-of, almost friends. I actually hope he stays a regular, he’s a great character. He and Chase should hook up or something, that would be awesome.
And ‘Wilson’! That episode was perfection. I love Wilson’s character and the Wilson+House friendship, because, like everything else on the show, it’s destructive and mean and painful and wonderful and furiously loyal, it works for both of them, and the lengths they go to to support each other is awesome. They add other dimensions to each other’s characters, House is nicer, Wilson is meaner, and it works. It was awesome to get a Wilson ep. House’s patients throughout seriously cracked me up, and I really hope Wilson’s assistant gets more screentime in later eps, because she was fab. Also, the last scene, with the loft? I could not stop laughing. I love these two.
(PS. Chase punching House? And then Taub telling his wife it was him? HILARIOUS)
Expect a Glee recap sometime tomorrow too. Also a kind of epic Brittany/Santana, Puck/Santana, Puck/Quinn fic THAT TOTALLY SNUCK UP ON ME AND IS ALMOST FINISHED. (So if anyone wants to beta?? haha, omg, i suck)
In other news, I bought a car.
Also, I don't really talk about this on here, but I'm a chronic asthmatic (woohoo) and I've been incredibly sick the last week or so, and my peak flow's been super low, so I trapezed off to the doctor's yesterday who sent me to get a chest x-ray. And basically I have two pockets of old air stuck in my lungs. Which is awesome. I spent twenty minutes with a ventalin mask on, and have been told to have hot showers and moar ventalin every few hours to try and get them out. She (my doctor) has also upped my seretide dose and daily prednisone which is clearly awesome. Hopefully it'll make a difference though. :) It got me out of work today though.
