What a hunk of horse shit!!
Thats what I expected to be saying after watching it last night. But thank the comic/movie gods I was wrong. I really think a main reason it was so good for me is because I went in with rock bottom expectations. I'd heard many bad reviews about it over the past week. People saying crazy things like #2 was a much better movie than this one. Now there was a piece of shit! Argue with me if you will, but Spiderman 2 was a terrible movie! Of course Spiderman 3 was not with out its share of moments were your thinking to yourself "What the fuck were they thinking? This is not something the Spiderman I know and love would do!" But for the most part these moments are few and actually are a little funnier than they are disappointing.
For instance, you can't help but laugh at the fact that whenever Peter Parker dawns the Venom suit, his hair goes all
Emo. Its almost like he has no idea how to be bad ass. And why should he? Its Peter Parker.
I really enjoyed the way Jazz music got incorporated into the film as well. Maybe not so much Peter's ridiculous dance scene, but more when him and Harry have their little scuffle. It really brought in a different element as opposed to just another orchestrated or techno peice.
My biggest fear for this movie was how much story they were attempting to cover within 2 hours and 20 minutes. I mean you have
3 villains this time, a new girl on the scene (
Gwen Stacy), the usual back and forth between MJ and Peter, Plus all of Harry's daddy issues. Its a lot to cram. I have to say though I liked it. Every scene was fresh compared to the last. You had no time to get sick of one thing happening because something new would be taking over any second. It was very much like one of the comics with something new and exciting at every turn.
It did suck how little screen time Venom got. They didn't give a whole lot of explanation about the symbiote, which probably left a lot of non comic readers in the dark. But what they did show of him was great, and with any luck this won't be his last appearance.
I could probably go on a lot longer but I won't ;-) Bottom line, Spiderman 3 is a fun, well crafted adventure that by far over shadows the first two installments with its entertainment value. So if you haven't seen it, you should. Its worth the $8 :-D
