Lucca Personality: Lucca’s not a particularly reserved person- she does, in fact, tend to be rather enthusiastic and forthright about projects she’s working on, things she believes in, and things that she’s particularly interested in (these being mainly machines and the way they work, though also some other aspects of science, particularly things connected with time and space- whatever Robo and others might’ve said, she’s still convinced there’s a less mystical explanation for the way the Time Gates worked- after all, the Epoch worked even after they’d closed). She’s intelligent, but she doesn’t necessarily realise that people aren’t as interested in the things she’s interested as she is, so she can come off as pushy and obsessive at times (the later of which she sometimes is, admittedly)- and she also has something of a need to prove that she’s right. That isn’t to say she doesn’t have a sense of personal space, as she does, but that she doesn’t know when to stop talking so that people don’t glaze over. Part of this is because she’s determined and driven- Lucca’s fairly strong in her convictions, and doesn’t tend to be budged from them easily, which is partly due to pride and a general belief that she’s right about things, or close enough. One of these is that Lucca tends to think that anyone- well, almost anyone- can understand things if they’re explained well enough, or given the tools with which to be able to break down concepts themselves. She’s got a fair amount of faith in the capability of people to shape things for the better, though she also knows that people are more than capable of evil and building evil. Usually she tries for optimism, and if that doesn’t work she’ll move to trying to do something productive- something that also extends to her trying to encourage her friends.
History: Lara, Lucca’s mother, lost her legs as the result of an accident with one of Taban’s, Lucca’s father, machines when she was cleaning the house- something Lucca felt responsible for, since she’d been unable to enter the password to stop the machine and the accident. This drove her to study machines in order to prevent further accidents, and possibly to find a way to restore her mother’s capacity to walk, though in doing so, she didn’t really meet people outside of her interests. While she did become proficient with machines, there was an unforeseen accident with the Telepod, a transportation device, that resulted in Marle, a girl who Crono, Lucca’s friend, had been showing around the Millennial Fair being sent somewhere else. In this case, however, Lucca and Crono were able to do something about it, Crono going after Marle and Lucca finding a way to go after them and bring them home. This was successful, though Crono and Lucca, along with a humanoid frog calling himself Frog, had to find Queen Leene first, who Marle had been mistaken for (as she was Princess Nadia in their time, a direct descendent with uncanny similarities to Leene), and Lucca told Crono to take Marle home, since she figured they could both do with each other’s company. This unfortunately resulted in Crono being tried and jailed for kidnapping the Princess. Knowing that he’d done nothing of the sort, Lucca headed in to help bust him out before the Chancellor’s orders took off his head. Marle helped out when guards cornered them, and told the King that she was leaving when he told her that the throne came before her personal wishes. The three took off into Guardian forest, and were cornered by guards and the Chancellor with no way out except a Time Gate that lead to a dilapidated future.
On finding that a creature called Lavos had caused this, the three set out to find some way to prevent this, first finding a Gate back to their time behind a locked door and a robot in the last room they could access. Lucca repaired the robot, which Marle named Robo, and it took Crono and Marle to restore power to the room, Lucca staying behind to open the door. It worked, but Robo was damaged while getting out. Lucca repaired him, during which she asked what Robo intended to do. In the morning, he told the group that he wished to join them and stepped into the Gate with them, with the result that all four were taken to the End of Time. Here Lucca was granted Fire magic, and went back with Crono and Marle to their own time in order to gather information. On the way from Medina to Truce, they learnt that Magus, leader of the Mystics four hundred years ago, had created Lavos in order to destroy the human race. They set out to stop this, on the way restoring an ancient sword (something Lucca helped with), finding Frog again and restoring his confidence and general faith in himself, and taking down most of the enemies in Magus’ castle. Crono, Frog and Lucca took down Magus, only to find that he didn’t create it- he was just summoning it. A massive Time Gate dragged them all into the flow of time, but Magus didn’t arrive in the same period. Crono and Frog helped Ayla out with some problems of the time, and Lucca headed back to the End of Time, where she stayed until the team headed to the Ocean Palace in 12 000 BC (thus meaning she didn’t see Lavos crash into the planet personally, nor was she involved in the first part of the Palace of Zeal events or the Mountain of Woe). She was sent back for the fight with the Golem twins to limit the options of their Copycat skill, and so didn’t see Crono’s death herself. It was still something that affected her greatly, and she returned to Truce to work on her machines until the news came that there might be a way to get Crono back. She didn’t entirely believe it, but headed up Death Peak with Marle and Frog to see if it would work. When it did, she was left confounded, and still doesn’t have a good explanation for why it worked. Between getting Chrono back and defeating Lavos, there were a number of sidequests- some of which she wasn’t involved him, and some in which she was. The most important one to her was the one where Robo helped restore the forest on the lower continent, which lead to Lucca stopping her mother’s accident from ever happening. She doesn’t have a good explanation for that, either. She was also involved in taking down the Dark Omen and Lavos, and felt an intense pride at doing so- that humans could defeat something that horrible, and forge their own future.
