[When Lucca does finally sleep, it's a lot like back home- slumped over a table (in this case one of the restaurant's) and solid, despite the snoring. She wakes with a jerk, though, woken… well, probably by the thump Crono's just given her.]

[Her grin flickers for a moment, but only a moment.] Best friends since… forever, pretty much. [which is… technically kind of true, in a way, which might be part of what they're both grinning about now.

Though Crono's looking at the Sphere rather thoughtfully.] Hey, I thought you'd only started planning those vision-things.

Uh. [She supposes that that was probably going to happen- Crono's not a complete idiot.] It's not exactly…

[And Crono gives her a look.] I thought we talked about just going off without telling anyone?

Yeah, but… why am I the one we're worrying about? [She pushes him, but she's starting to grin again.]

So, you tried to create something like the Spheres before, Lucca?

Where were you two planning on running off to? Planning to, uh...elope?

Not exactly. We had something like it, but it doesn't really work any more, and it wasn't much good for long conversations. I've been trying to get the communications working again, but… not much luck so far.

[She'd go and find it, but she's busy being somewhere between horribly amused and mildly mortified at the second part. Crono just looks mortified, and splutters a bit.] That's not-! I didn't mean-

[Lucca pats his arm. Maybe not the best idea right now, but she means well- or to be vaguely reassuring, at least.] Nah, not us. He's got a girl- Marle- and her dad's probably all right with them now. That was the impression I got last time, at least. [She glances at Crono for confirmation, and while he's still feeling very awkward about all this, he manages a nod. No more going-to-jail after a date, which can only be good.]

What happened, if you don't mind me asking?

[he laughs and smiles apologetically for his assumptions.] Ahh, I see. Just good friends then running away to...?

[A bit of a shrug.] We lost communications with the one that it was paired with. I'm still working on replicating it. [And now she goes and finds it. It's kind of square, for something that probably had its origins in Zeal (which wasn't entirely about circles, but they probably had a healthy respect for ovals, considering the presence of Nu). The display doesn't show anything except static when on.]

Medina, on the Eastern Continent. It's pretty quiet- the ferry's just about ready to start up- but there could still be some bad feelings from the war. It was four hundred years ago, but… some things stick in the memory. [Like those of vengeful fat slug-beasts. He's really hoping Yakra XIII didn't have children.]

Ahhh, I see! What sort of power source does it run on?

What, the ferry itself has ill-will towards you and yours?

It's based on some older technology- [hard to say, but at a guess she'd say that Gasper hadn't really been doing much with this sort of thing for some time before they'd arrived there] -which drew energy from various sources and stored it, usually in various stones. I'm not entirely sure which source they were using for this- a lot got lost between then and now.

Ah, not so much. It's more the people there- that's why it's taken so long to get a ferry going.

[Sorry about that. Canon is kind of skimpy on some things, and I'm a bit edgy, so… that's why.]

Ahhh, I see. Like some sort of energy sponge, in a sense.

I suspected as much. Unfortunately, that's the way some people can be, especially with age old prejudices they've been taught to be fact.

Hmm. I hadn't thought about it that way, but that describes it fairly well. Although sources can be a little harder to find than water.

Yeah. The people in charge there are trying to change things, and hopefully if we can build a good relationship with them, we can improve things.

[Lucca's mouth twists a little- they didn't see Mystics in the future. That was before they defeated Lavos, but… she's still not sure what to make of it.]
