Holy spit!
Picked up my subscriptions at Ultimate Comics yesterday. They opened a new store on Ninth Street a couple of weeks ago that's a lot bigger than the one at Northgate, but the guy who usually works at the Ninth Street store, John, is a total jerk (as opposed to Eric at Northgate, the guy who gave me my Colossus figure for $20. I'm a big fan of Eric.). But despite his jerkiness, I wanted to check out the store, and pick up my stuff.

The Secret Invasion arc is pretty interesting so far. The premise is that after their empire was destroyed*, these alien guys, Skrulls, came to Earth to take over. Sure, pretty typical premise, right? Except the Skrulls can change their appearance to imitate pretty much whoever they want, including superheroes. According to Bendis (the writer) Skrulls have been posing as superheroes since New Avengers #1, so this arc isn't coming out of nowhere.
I'm pretty excited about the arc, mostly because Teddy/Hulkling is in it, and I love him to pieces. He's a Skrull prince, see.
The art for Uncanny X-men is awesomeawesomeawesome. Pixie gets totally beat up, which is a shame, but very prettily beat up.
The new Runaways art is really disappointing to me. Manga-style art in Marvel comics just isn't koscher.
Astonishing X-men: She's still dead.
Young X-men: Another of my favorite X-men died. Great. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO STOP DYING??? Geez, there are only a couple hundred left, for crying out loud.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man: I actually shivered reading this. The art is as distinctively Mignola as always, and the plot is really dark (but no surprises there). If you guys are anywhere near a comic/bookstore and aren't squeamish, PICK IT UP. $2.99. Doooo eeeet. It's #1 of 3, and you don't have to have read anything before it (I mean, you have to know who Hellboy IS, obviously, but whatever).
Kick Ass is...kick ass. 'nuff said.
