Hey there, Flist!
This is mostly a catching up post, with illustrative pics of our convalescent cat.
But seriously. Teh cutes!
Is this not the fluffiest kitteh tail of all time??
Last week, we almost lost her D: A thousand dollars later, we have a rapidly-improving cat, but it's been a harrowing week :/
Kitteh, hiding from mortality in a very adorable way:
Basically, just over a week and a half ago, our cat dropped from a 7lb cat to a 4.5lb zombie cat over the course of 3 days. Long story short, because of weather issues from last year and this year, Southern TX was suddenly infested with mutant swarms of fleas which proceeded to exsanguinate our cat despite a flea collar, flea meds and 3 flea-bombings of our apartment over 10 days. 2 rounds of steroids, daily vitamin treatments, a blood transfusion, emergency 1am trip to an animal emergency room and subcutaneous fluids later, she seems almost miraculously better.
Celebratory kitteh pics from this afternoon!
This one was taken before she got ill, over Easter (note preemptive happy rainbow confetti on her tail)
She's in good company:
(The Boy is a good sport)
Though it would be awesome if the entire Flange5-Boy-Kitteh household generally went around bespeckled with rainbow confetti, this is not actually the case. There's an Easter practice here of smashing confetti-filled painted eggs over the heads of loved ones. True to form, Texas insists on living dangerously.
We got these from a guy in a truck on the side of a highway:
A doomed cascarone with my festive Easter nails:
So basically, we spent all of last weekend trying to keep our cat alive by force-feading her and drugging her and not sleeping much, culminating in me having to get a hotel room that takes cats in the middle of the night (because she was having a respiratory reaction to the flea bombs, even though they'd dissipated over a whole day), and force-feeding her chicken broth and beef baby food (who knew such a thing existed? Not I) in said hotel room at 4am.
Probably the most surreal moment of this was walking out of a grocery store at 3:30 am carrying a single jar of beef baby food and chicken broth as a childless-by-choice vegetarian.
It turns out that our cat is not a fan of beef baby food, but it got her through the night, and two days later, we didn't have to force feed her anymore and she felt well enough to actually fight taking her meds. So my hands are a bit savaged, but my cat is healthy again and regaining her weight an all is well. \o/
Video from this afternoon!
Bouncier fluffier cat of a month ago:
To be fair, much of the radical loss of tail fluff is actually a result of the native burrs here, and is a normal April tragedy, rather than an effect of kitteh illness.
She's still a sweetheart, though:) I've never seen a cat so willing to come running when she's called :D
In any case, despite traumas and sleeplessness and having been sprayed with beefy baby food in a crappy hotel room in the middle of the night by a deathly ill cat, the kitteh, myself and the Boy survived, with no apparent long-term damage. The vet says he thinks we avoided major organ damage, and the kitteh is recovering amazingly fast. YAY! The only downside is that she's now a staunch advocate of wet cat food, which smells nasty and is way more expensive than her earlier diet, but it seems a small price to pay for an ambulatory happy cat.
I leave you with a picture of the cat supervising my work in the office. It's clearly exhausting.
In other news, I am planning a ridiculous nail polish post for tomorrow, and am planning on an ambitious bunch of Arashi-picspams stretching through the foreseeable future and am also trying to think of fun things to do to get ready for the new concert dvd. Any ideas? All my boyband friends live so far away now, so I can't even plan a ridiculous viewing party . . . I suppose there's always twitter or AOL for real-time silliness . . .
I've been AWOL so long! How's everyone doing?
