*flails*
September 17 is an awesome day&hearts It's special for all sorts of reasons that make my heart squeeful:
First, as the picture above suggests, it's the date of AAA Taipei, which is pretty spectacular.
Second, it's Zan's birthday, and she is pretty damn awesome.
Finally, it's my wedding anniversary&hearts The Boy and I have been married for five years as of today&hearts
Happy Birthday, Zan!
♥♥♥♥♥
Happy Anniversary, Boy!
In honor of this special day, I bequeath upon you ridiculous sparkly marquee hearts^^; And heaps of love&hearts
I always get excited whenever I see a group of Arashi members looking perturbed by other members of Arashi and their hijinks.
Considering the general bubble of reality that they seem to live in where normal rules of social niceties, personal space, and general appropriateness in public places just don't seem to apply, one can generally assume that if multiple members of Arashi are looking a little bit wild-eyed and twitchy, something fairly awesome is in the making.
A case in point-Check out Jun, Sho, and Aiba:
Jun and Sho look resigned, while Aiba has a vaguely desperate manic look about him. There’s also a slight gap between those on the left and those on the right. Meanwhile, Nino looks like it’s his birthday, and the rest of the group just offered to buy him lunch for the week. This can only end badly spectacularly.
The look Jun gives the staff just as the camera cuts away says it all: we’re going to have to cut this episode very carefully.
Leaving aside any complicated analysis, Nino looks way too smug here. The rest of Arashi instinctively know to be very nervous when Nino gets that look.
Personally, I would find this sequence terrifying:
One of the things I love about the OhMiya dynamic is that it’s so easy to see Nino as the perpetual instigator, but if you pay attention to Ohno, he’s not just along for the ride-he’s just as sneaky, but manages to escape pretty much all of the blame. That’s actually kind of genius.
Evil is sneaky.
Except when it’s not.
Aiba: *scoots away*
Good lord, Nino is smug at the beginning of this episode:
Nino: Show them the fruits of our labor, my minion.
Behold grandma and Grandpa, according to Ohmiya
Jun, Sho, and Aiba: . . . excuse me?
Aiba: You have got to show me how you did that&hearts
nom nom nom
Once Ohno and Nino confess that no, they have not figured out how to transform the elderly into bowls of acerola, and indeed no, there will be no cannibalism today, they explain that in fact, they spent the day at an acerola farm in Okinawa.
It may just be me, but the rest of Arashi look a little disappointed. I think they enjoy the spectacle of rampaging OhMiya at least as much as the rest of us, no matter how much or how loudly they protest.
This may have something to do with the way that OhMiya tend to be nefarious but not actually evil. They like to trick people, but they tend to use their sneaky for good, or at least for only moderately bratty good fun.
The rest of Arashi take offense at Ohno and Nino's obvious conspiratorial glee.
I would like to take this opportunity to point out that Aiba has no business ever referring to other members of Arashi as “indecent,” except maybe Jun, and probably not him, either.
Even if they are giving each other looks like this.
Despite all the love in the studio, on location in Okinawa, Nino tries to ditch Ohno, claiming he came alone.
This is not entirely unjustified ^^;
Riiiiiiiiiiight.
So . . . the letter.
Ohno is grounded--to the ocean. In a few years, Nino is going to regret that particular decision.
It’s minor, but one of the things I love about this episode is how Nino expresses disbelief that the writer enjoys watching the show every week. Bastard!Nino cracks me up. How he manages to get away with things like that and still have people eating out of his hand, I have no idea.
The faces of two men who love the summer. Really.
Especially when it involves working all day in a field.
Nino is an expert delegator of tasks.
I think Ohno should have kept this hat for when he goes fishing.
Acerola
By the end of this episode, I kind of want to try acerola. It's pretty, it has 32 times the vitamin C of a lemon in one fruit, and it's apparently good for skin, and mouth and stomach problems.
Shockingly, Ohno likes it, leading him to warn the grandpa that he might end up eating all of them.
As it turns out . . . this is the whole day's post-Ohno harvest *winces*
Despite this, grandpa suggests that Ohno be his heir. Seriously, Arashi could collectively own half of the small businesses in Japan without paying a single yen if they wanted to.
While he's busy planning the rest of Ohno's life, the grandpa also offers to find Ohno a wife ^^;
At this point the editors, who clearly love us, immediately cut to Nino, who is busy making lunch. I am not even making that up.
I love the grandma&hearts She gets Nino to try the famously bitter goya (bitter melon), claiming that it should be sweet. Whether or not Nino actually believes her, he pretty much has to eat it and is suitably whiny about the bitterness. They make a good pair ^_^
Speaking of good pairs, this is one of the more openly affectionate grandparent couples in MMA. Not that they're touchy-feeling, but they readily admit their love for each other, which is really sweet.
After lunch, Nino and Ohno interrogate the grandparents on their first kiss, and get increasingly ignored.
Grandma: remember those nice boys? I wonder where they've gone off to . . .
OhMiya: . . .
When they ask about the grandparents' wedding, however, they learn that the couple never had a wedding ceremony, because they hadn't had any money at the time, due to American occupation. They spend a suspicious amount of time verifying that a) there never was a ceremony and b) the grandparents kind of wish there would have been one.
In the afternoon, Nino ends up helping the grandma with her newspaper delivery . . .
. . . while Ohno pumps grandpa for more information about the marriage, finding out that grandma and grandpa don't have wedding rings, never had a wedding ceremony, and don't even have very many pictures of themselves together.
Pictured: Metaphorical wheels turning
Apparently, grandma likes to prank people other than Nino, as she shows up at her sister's house with Nino and a film crew, apparently having told her nothing about it beforehand. I kind of love her&hearts
Clearly, so does Nino.
A familiar sight on MMA:
It's a good thing Nino rested up, though, because Ohno has a plan, and he's willing to drag Nino out forcibly to make sure it gets done.
Grandparents: . . .
They seemed like such nice boys . . .
Nino knows that any hope for relaxing just got shot.
Nino: This is where you're going to be earnest and sweet and I'm going to cave and have to do a lot of work, isn't it?
Ohno: Why yes, I see you're familiar with the pattern.
Nino: *resists*
Nino: *resists*
Ohno: *is hopeful*
Nino: . . . shit.
Nino: How does he do that??
Ohno: Do what?
Ohno's not really all that ambitious. All he wants to do is hold a wedding on absolutely no notice, when it's already afternoon.
Yet Ohno has amazing powers of persuasion at his disposal, and soon, Nino is cooperative.
This might have something to do with the fact that his job is to go back to the grandparents and distract them by suggesting they all rest for a while.
Meanwhile, Ohno uses his aforementioned powers of persuasion and the implicit coercion of a camera crew to bully charm a local cafe owner into making a wedding cake immediately.
I do not envy this woman. Look, if Nino can't say no to Ohno, she's sure as hell not going to.
Meanwhile, Nino absconds with other supplies from the grandparents' house.
Soon, the preparations for a simple wedding are complete!
I'm impressed that they got an elderly couple to come to a beach while blindfolded after an afternoon of acting rather strangely. It's a good thing they aren't actually evil. These two would be unstoppable.
The veil is a nice touch.
So is getting the whole family to show up on no notice.
As Captain, Ohno is the logical choice to conduct a wedding ceremony.
This was a lot of work just to get a picture of a kiss ^^;
SUCCESS!
Our work here is done.
There's something really sweet about Nino congratulating Ohno on a job well done.
I love that Nino and the others will totally give Ohno crap, but when he's stubborn and really wants something like this or something even more strenuous, like the rowing saga, they will totally work to make it happen.
Anyway, it's still the 17th in Texas, but it's a little late in Singapore, huh? Sorry about that, Zan >_<;;; But I hope you had an awesome day and that you're feeling better and that the next year brings nothing but good things, including lots of Arashi and OhMiya goodness&hearts
And Happy Anniversary, Boy&hearts Even if you are on the wrong side of the state :P Come back where you belong tomorrow and let's celebrate five awesome years again &hearts
