One of my favorite little skills used to be the ability to recognize an actor/actress and remember where I'd seen him/her before. I've been totally failing at this recently!
On Sunday & Monday, I watched the Battlestar Galactica
miniseries. (One of the parts I enjoyed most were the space dogfights. I'm still so used to the Star Trek conventions that two spaceships engaging in battle must fly straight at each other, that movies like this one or Serenity with actual 'dogfights' are exciting. I also thought of you,
deaminerva, because of the taiko-esque drumming during the battles.) Thrown off by her long hair, I failed to recognize
Liz from Sneakers and, inexcusably and irritatingly,
Archie from Horatio Hornblower!! Oh the shame! Well, it may just be time to re-watch Hornblower; Netflix has been recommending it to me, and I never saw the last 4 episodes anyway.
Last night, at Jesse's, we watched
Kingdom of Heaven. In my defense, Jesse didn't give me much time to recognize
Lupin, before announcing that's who it was. He played a competent and cool Hospitaller. :)
Dr. Bashir really was almost unrecognizable, with a beard and a turban, but I still feel I've failed myself. (Also, less likely to be recognized because I have no personal attachment to the role I previously saw him in, but still familiar, there was also
Trevor Goodchild from Aeon Flux.)
Gah!
Edit: Also, completely irrelevantly, the acronym PBGC reminds me of a PBGV (e.g.,
this) and the sonorous announcements of the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. :) Sometimes the randomness of my job makes me smile.
