So, I have a lot of adventures to relate, since Friday was a good day of busy busy-ness and Saturday the sky gods watered us like toddlers trying to 'help' in the cosmic garden. Eleventy-million waterlogged acres later, we still have not attended the wedding we drove down for, but managed to have a very nice lunch.
But all of that news can wait because I NO LONGER HAVE A BREAK IN MY VOCAL RANGE.
LALALA! I can sing again! And it doesn't have any annoying fucking places where I can't hit the note, or hit and then can't hold it! I have my range back and now I can hit all the contralto and mezzo-soprano and most of the tenor range! I still need to test this out and see, note-wise, what that boils down to. Aaaaand I need to see about getting my breath support and tonal flexibility back now that the vocal cords themselves are better.
Friday night was the
Poly Dinner, which was awesome.
Xenoix left me to my own devices to stay home and work overtime, but
runiclaw came along this time to be reunited with Penni Nichols. :| Apparently they went to high school together. O_o WHAT IS UP FLIST?!? HOW MANY OF YOU KNOW PENNI AND DARTAGNAN?!? It's incestuous, the degree of interconnectedness among my communities. Not that I mind. :)
Driving back from Cafe Brazil, I was singing along with my iPod and realized I could hit all the notes Patrick Stump was singing. And then came the sqeeage and I almost veered off the highway. Helpfully, someone had foreseen this eventuality and put helpful lines across the emergency lanes that let you know quite loudly when you need to get back in your own fucking lane.
Saturday we drove in the rain (and the really quite lovely fog) down to the CMA campground to see some friends married.
The inimicable
azuzil and
mig_unit were to get married yesterday, but when we finally got down to the camp grounds, the bridge was under a foot of water. Fast-moving floodwater, and I got yelled at for trying to cross like the madwoman I keep telling people I am. WHY DOES NO ONE BELIEVE ME? ALSO, WHY AM I CAPSLOCKY TODAY? It's an illness. But I wanted to get in to see my peeps. :( (I would risk watery death #4 for you guys, but I don't want anybody to yell at me. It's possible that my priorities may be messed up. What.)
The day was somewhat saved when we went to lunch with folk who were also stranded outside.
queenofhalves,
bouncyone,
kellymeine, and Tracy who may not have an LJ. Good people, all. Fried food, pie, and misappropriated wedding cake were eaten. Convo was flowy and enjoyable, Feri and crazy working habits were discussed, I felt better about the trek down. Good planning and conversing also happened in the car and much
Instead of going straight home we picked up
raasalhayya and went to the
ARCE meeting, but it was not about quite what I was hoping for. Grr. I had thought it would cover the sexual politics in Egyptian temple society, but the focus was on the politics of the lineage of the head priests and the times when a pharaoh named a different head priest that the lineage dictated. Which was still interesting, but grr again for false advertising. I want more anthropology! Bend to my whims, Egyptologists!
In the last bit of update for the evening, I have decided to modernize my celebration of Beltane! It shall not be spent having outdoor naked times, but dancing at Panoptikon instead. Friday, May 1st: save the date. Come out to Deep Ellum, and shake a tail feather with me! (I'm looking at you,
raasalhayya,
hellocobweb.) I'm going to see about getting people who ought to meet each other together and seeing how much cultural cross-pollination I can do. Also, it's a good time and should be had by all. :D
