Bad and Not Bad

So, the snow started on Saturday afternoon. First it was tiny flakes and melted quickly on the ground. Then it started coming down faster and bigger flakes, but as darkness fell, the roads were only wet. That was good.... until it really started sticking... and the water froze into ice.

The next morning we had close to 18 inches of white stuff on the ground. So, after cereal, Rudy headed out and began plowing. The last snow he would run along the front of the driveway, across the front of the house and well into the yard so he would have plenty of space to plow snow. So, he did a couple of little runs and then ran into the yard.... and 4-wheel drive and all... he got stuck. He shoveled and shoveled and shoveled and each time he backed up the rear-end of the truck slid into the high snow. He finally found himself aimed at the road, and he got enough momentum to break through to the road. He will not do that again, anytime soon.

He plowed out our space and then took the little tractor to get as close to the ground as he could. There is still an icy layer.... the water from the day before when the snow melted and a harder icy layer of hardened snow, but we can move around.

The road in front of our house is clear and dry. The roads in Parkesburg were not bad, well plowed and clear. The 30 Bypass was excellent, clear and dry. Exton was horrible. Snow-covered, ruts of ice and large bumps where plows had crossed over openings and not been removed. It was nasty. It is always amazing to me that the little Boroughs manage to get their roads clearer with less equipment and manpower than the bigger Townships in our area. You can always tell where they were able to get their equipment out and do the job. The towns that still have snow-covered roads should be ashamed. And at a balmy 28, those snowy ruts are becoming icy tracks. Bad news for the drivers in the area.

So it was bad, and not so bad, and will require some work to make things excellent all over.
