So yesterday was fun. It started out with me going to my awful early classes. Luckily I didn’t have to go to work because I had already told my boss that I wasn’t going to be working today because I thought I would be leaving Queens at 12:30. This ended up not being the case because after conferring with my mother last night she told me that she and my father can not leave my grandmother alone during that time of the day so they would not be able to pick me up in New Haven.
Fortunately however, my aunt Mich and her boyfriend Jeff were going to be in NY to talk to the man who would be curetting Jeff’s gallery in Copenhagen (Jeff and Mich are both artists). So after work I took a nap, packed then left to meet Mich in Chelsea to walk around while Jeff was in his meeting. Besides the Subway drama with loss of power between Roosevelt and Queens Plaza (only Ashley knows what this means) and the fact that the A doesn’t stop at 23 Street (thanks Ashley) I was able to meet up with Mich at 4:00 ish. We walked through Chelsea and went into various art galleries. Some of the art was really cool and other art was not so wonderful, but who am I to judge art? I realized I like walking around galleries and haven’t done so since this summer. In Chelsea there are several blocks that just consist of galleries and in more central Manhattan there is the MET, so I think I will become more artsy on my return to NY. One artist had interesting renditions of some Vermeer paintings (who, for those who didn’t know, is my favorite painter). After Chelsea we wondered into the West end of the Village and looked around. It was basically just a lot of fun and everything is extremely trendy.
When Jeff called we walked toward Curator John’s house and met up with Jeff and John. John was a nice guy who, interestingly enough, curates for Yoko Ono. I thought that was neat. He helped Jeff, Mich and I get a reservation at a cute (but expensive) Italian restaurant. I had pasta which was amazing and we all sat there chatting. In true Fae-in-nice-restaurant fashion I was a barbarian and dropped my fork loudly (why this only happens in nice places is beyond me). We drank tap water as opposed to bottled water, which is different from my last fancy restaurant experience where I consumed $8 water.
After dinner we drove around the village a little. They showed me Washington Square Park and told me not to buy my drugs there and go to better sources (that was awkward) and showed me where my cousin Sarah lived when she went to NYU. We also got really amazing deserts from this shop that Jeff likes. We ate them on the way home. I got into Fall River around 10:30 and my mom picked me up from there and got home and went to bed. Its been a fairly good day with minor brushes with the past.
(So on this good note I would like to say goodbye to Flamingomingo29 as I cannot and will not be using you any longer. I will come back and visit to read old entries, but I will no longer be using you to write in.)
