Yesterday was nuts. Our computer system got all fucked up--the new registers are set up so they communicate with a computer in another state, and are normally fairly speedy. Unfortunately, all of the registers on that system in the entire airport went offline. We were promised when we got the new system, "Even when it's offline, it works gloriously! The only thing you won't be able to do is not work!" Well, they technically worked . . . very, very slowly. And were prone to more double scans and stuff, which meant we had to redo all of our sales . . . very, very slowly. One poor woman was just trying to buy some M&Ms and a Snickers and her transaction took like ten minutes. Meanwhile, the computers kept arbitrarily logging us out because they decided we needed a manager's permission to work offline, which is fine except there wasn't always a manager available. Fridays are the busiest day of the week. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? *tears out hair*
Luckily, all of the customers were pretty chill about it. One guy just said, "Oh, yeah, I work in the industry, I know they all break." My coworker was like, "Sweet, think you can get us a better system?" Another one suggested we do song-and-dance routines while we're waiting on the computers to make sure the customers aren't bored. I'm kinda thinking we should do that anyway.
(Sidenote: my coworker Lorenzo found out the hard way you should always hand things to me, not throw them. I mean, I did catch it, but with my face. Luckily it was a stuffed animal, not Mark Twain's autobiography. I spent all of T-ball in the outfield picking flowers and playing with insects; I am the opposite of athletic.)
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE:
I look at a new apartment on Monday! I'm excited! I'm also finishing my taxes tomorrow! I'm . . . less excited! And I'm hoping to get another hole in my head a cartilage piercing this weekend! Again, excited!
