17/30 Three things make a post: family edition

1) An activity the museling and I have been doing together recently is coloring. The museling loves to make art of all sorts, and he's been in the mood to sit together chatting while working on art projects together, so I got myself a coloring book of my own and got some new colored pencils and gel pens to supplement my personal art supply collection. (You can never have too many art supplies, and a lot of mine have migrated to the museling over the years.)

It turns out that I love gel pens. I had no idea. I've always been a huge fan of rollerball and fountain pens for the smooth glide of the nib and flowing ink over paper, and these gel pens give me much the same experience but with lots of cool colors and ink textures. It's like painting with pens.

I am delighted both by the tactile and creative experience and getting to make art with my son. :)

2) Speaking of the museling, he asked this week to listen to some of Hamilton for the first time, I guess because our trip to see it is coming up soon. So I've been playing him various songs, and in pure museling fashion he keeps asking for "the song where they sing really fast" ("Guns and Ships") and "that one you really like and I like, too" ("The Room Where It Happens"). On the way home from school yesterday, he calculated how many words you could sing in an hour if you can sing 6.3 words per second like Lafayette.

3) mr. muse is an entrepreneur, and he often gets pitches over e-mail wanting him to help start companies. Today he got a pitch from someone who basically wants to re-create a lesser form of Scientology, turning lifestyle advice into a movement that has intensely dedicated followers and makes lots of money. Ah, the potential of the largely untapped cult market! Who wouldn't want in? I hear they're very profitable!
