I've been binge-watching season two of Orange is the New Black since I got home. I love how the show is written and acted, and I love how we get to see the complex histories and lives of so many of the characters, but it gives me such weird dreams. The show disturbs me in a variety of very fundamental ways, as it is supposed to, I think. I can't stop watching it, but I can't quite escape from it even when I'm not. There's a poetic irony to that, hmm?
If pressed, I'd say that my favorite character is Red for the way she runs things - she's tough, largely straight-forward, and smart - although I love (and am made uncomfortable by) pretty much all of the characters for different reasons. I love how nuanced they are. Nothing is black and white.
It's funny, but I can't say that I enjoy the show. I mean, it doesn't make me happy. There are parts I'd happily fast-forward through for how much of a train-wreck the stories can be. But I do find it very compelling.
So of course I'm almost done with the season, and I'll be without a must-watch show again. Sigh.
What are you guys binge-watching? Are you watching OitNB? Are you having the same kinds of disturbing, trapped dreams I am?
