Wait, what?

I am in my writing cafe for the first time in weeks, listening to Glee music for the first time in months (because it gives me feelings - and NO SPOILERS, PLEASE), doing some much-needed head-clearing freewriting also for the first time in months and for the first time in even more months without Near Misses hanging over my head while doing so ( Read more... )

What's freewriting? I mean, I can guess, but can you tell me a bit about it please? It sounds like a good thing to do.

For me, freewriting is opening a clean doc and just letting words come out of my fingers without much idea of what will come of them. I just write something in one sitting with no demands. (And then I only do minimal clean-up editing before posting if it's in any way coherent, but those are my rules to keep me honest.)

I usually have an issue or a feeling in my heart that starts me off, like wanting to think about the season or longing or touch. Some people start with a word to prompt them.

But basically, it's just sitting down, opening a new doc, and letting words come out. It's not self-editing or self-doubt. It doesn't require a plan. It's not endless fiddling. It's just words, one after another, until they're finished.

It's very freeing. :)

Oh, they're not flowing, but that's part of the reason I was freewriting. I need to remember how to do words that aren't Near Misses. :D

Any magnificent masterpieces brewing? Or does the freedom feel too good? I suspect you need to be creative-as I do- and you get that through writing. I so enjoyed Near Misses. I look forward to seeing what comes next

I have no masterpieces. I have one thing in my head I MUST get out before the season starts, but I'm having trouble settling into the flow it needs. So we shall see what my fingers create before next week.

Historically during the season I write small fics (2-10k words) related to canon while it is airing and some other, bigger fics (20k+ words) along the way/during the hiatuses. We'll see if that trend follows this year, too. NM, for example, was almost entirely written during the winter/spring (the six weeks between "On My Way" and "Big Brother") hiatus and the first part of the summer hiatus.
