Glee 3x04 - "Pot o' Gold"

Nov 01, 2011 21:45

I should start by saying that I was aware of two significant items going into this episode: "(Last) Friday Night" and the entrance of Damian McGinty's character. Now, I really liked Damian on The Glee Project, so I was super excited about both of these events.

1) Damian... needs to have more expressions as Rory. He wasn't the strongest actor on TGP, and he was very stiff to me in this episode. Also kind of creepy as a character. So this item didn't live up to my excitement, but we'll see. He has six more episodes to sort himself out.

2) On the other hand, I literally started crying during "(Last) Friday Night" like the dork that I am. Tears running down my face, shuddering breaths crying. And again the second time I watched it. (And honestly I don't even like the damn song.) It was such a bouncy joyous performance, and Kurt and Blaine DANCED (and Kurt gave him his little shimmy and everything), but YOU GUYS I wrote that, and it's not the same but it's TOTALLY THE SAME. I know it's just a coincidence, but it's like something I dreamed in my head HAPPENED. Blaine being Blaine, pulling faces, dancing with everyone, New Directions bouncing around him to this silly, silly song... It's like it was in my head. Yeah, happy tears. I don't know, it's stupid, but I'll take my joys where I can find them.

Anyway, enough about me being a dork. It was super fun, and there was Mike and Blaine, and the whole Glee club was bouncing along, and Blaine pulled Kurt off the risers and danced with him, and even apart from my own personal baggage over the song it was fun, fun, fun and so New Directions Blaine. <3

Other bits that jumped out:

- Finn the spy - OMG Cory made me laugh with how bad Finn is as a spy; he's adorkable.
- Blaine and Finn - I'm not hugely thrilled about them being in conflict without any reference to the fact that they must hang out because of Kurt (since it doesn't feel like they're friendly at all, even though they were in "Prom Queen" - maybe Blaine won too many times at Hummel-Hudson Board Game Night over the summer?), but I get it because they're both leaders. So their competing pep talks and Blaine stepping up and talking back in his own polite way worked for me.
- Rory the Finn Hudson fanboy also made me smile, and I would probably have laughed at a better performance.
- Quinn and Puck - gah, so uncomfortable for me at pretty much every turn, though I was glad we saw more of the vulnerable side of Quinn, even if she's wrong, wrong, wrong... and apparently the baby sacrifice books are staying at Shelby's?
- IT WAS CALLED THE HUMMEL-HUDSON HOUSEHOLD! And we had Hummel-Hudsons at Breadstix being a family. I love them SO MUCH. I was so happy to see Carole.
- Burt Hummel - so funny, so kick-ass, I love him more every time we see him, and we'll have to have more of him because he's running against Sue! And he was running even before Will came to see him! And he's still an awesome dad to both of his boys... and he could bring Finn into the business, fanfic (this time not mine) comes true!
- Finn apologizing to Brittany and the whole montage of the ND kids trying to keep the family going was nice and felt right to me, because they really are good kids for the most part.
- Rachel's loving smile toward Finn during Rory's last song just made me melt. I love them being sweet.
- In the right light I could almost 'ship Kurt/Blaine/Rachel after this episode. LOL I totally 'ship them as NYC futurefic besties, but the Blaine/Rachel vibes keep revving up, and the three of them sitting together at the end made me all warm and fuzzy.

Yes, yes, this show is Hummel-Hudson-Andersons and Rachel for me, okay? I mean, I love everybody, but they're my show.

I continue to have no interest whatsoever in the new glee club (which doesn't have the magic twelve to complete, but la la la who needs rules or continuity?), but there isn't story without conflict, so conflict it is.

It's rare that I'm struck by all of the songs in an episode the first time through (3x01 was an exception), so I don't have much to say about the performances besides LFN, though I thought "It's Not Easy Being Green" was a hysterical choice for Rory on a meta level. I'm not sure yet whether I like it in the episode, but I can see why they might have laughed themselves sick over it in the writers' room.

And then...

Preview for next week: OH MY GOD. I don't want to talk about it, I can't talk about it, I can't I can't I CAN'T PLEASE DON'T SAY A WORD TO ME BEYOND INCOHERENT SQUEAKY NOISES unless you're stoney321 in e-mail, but OH. MY. GOD. (AND DON'T YOU DARE SPOIL ME LA LA LA LA LA LA LA.)
