So this was my day.
I don't generally do RL fannish things. I've been in fandom for eight years, and I just don't. I don't go to cons, I don't stalk celebrities, I don't even meet up often with other fans.
But OMG I had so much fun today! First and foremost, I got to meet bdbdb, whom I've known around fandom forever. Seriously, I think it's been all eight years. We've talked about me getting to LA to meet her for ages, and it's always been like this crazy dream for me... and it happened! She's fabulous, of course, and just jumped right into the conversation with me and two of my BFFs like we weren't actually crazy people. I'm not sure any of us paused for breath all day! :)
And then tonight I got to meet Brad Falchuk, Harry Shum Jr., Jenna Ushkowitz, Cory Monteith, and Dot-Marie Jones in a cocktail party atmosphere gathering after an amazing show of them acting out screenplays written by kids. I got to chat with them (briefly, because I was aware that there were other people waiting, even if not everyone else was so clueful) and touch them (not in an inappropriate way, just shook hands, took pictures with all but Brad). It was kind of surreal. They were just standing there chatting with people in a totally unhurried way. They were all very nice and friendly (which is their job, of course) and Dot in particular was really genuine, but wow do I have new appreciation for Cory up close and personal. Hello, handsome, tall man. LOL But I got to connect with each of them about something real about them, which was great, because I didn't just want to say "thanks, you're awesome" if I could say something more interesting.
The plays that they performed, written by fifth graders, were hilarious, and the actors gave it their all. It was a really nice event and didn't even need the meet-and-greet to be a fantastic night. It was so much fun.
I fly home tomorrow, sleep-deprived but happy. :)
