My own personal canon.

I'm not one for memes, but this one looks fun. If you give me a character or a pairing, I'll tell you five-ish things that are a part of my own personal canon about him/her/them*. BtVS, AtS, Firefly, SGA, SG-1, due South, Sports Night are all up for grabs. Did I forget a fandom I've written (if not posted) in? Try me ( Read more... )

The man they call Jayne!

1. Jayne knows he's a uncouth, uncultured lout. That doesn't mean he can't appreciate pretty and refined when he sees it; even a blind man can tell the different between cake and wholemeal bread. He'd be happy to watch Simon (or Mal or even Kaylee, who sure is pretty even if she ain't refined) all day. He's entranced by them.

2. After Kaylee went to her ball in her big fluffy dress, Jayne tried dancing with air in his quarters. He tripped on his feet and fell flat on his bunk.

3. Jayne would die for Mal. He'd rather not, all things considered, but Mal's the first captain he's had who has treated him as part of the crew instead of just as muscle. He's inspired Jayne's loyalty... at least to a point.

4. He does not understand what Zoe sees in Wash. It's obvious what Wash sees in her, but since she gave him a black eye the one time he tried to make a move on her he's not going to go into details about her assets.

5. Jayne thinks River is batshit insane, but he finds Simon's care for her a huge turn-on. He tries to tell himself that he's missing his own family, who never cared for him like that, but really it's because he wants to be the center of Simon's attention. He's also totally terrified of the thought.

Wonderful! I must confess a warm and fuzzy spot in my heart for Jayne in the "no you nitwit" *thwap* kind of way.

Rather like Andrew and early Wes on Buffy, actually. They have that thing where they're like the puppy with the too-big feet that trip them and you know they're going to fall and land on their noses and yet, still funny. (Only usually in an emotional/abstract sense, if that makes sense.)

Similarly, would you do Xander?

It'd be my pleasure!

1. Xander loves Buffy. He fell in love with her in s1 because she was cute and funny and could kick his ass, and that love has matured into a deep and abiding respect for her internal strength and determination to do what's right. He never expects her to love him back, but he knows he'll never leave her side when she needs him.

2. Xander secretly thinks that he turned Willow gay. Okay, he knows she and Oz had patched things up post-Lover's Walk-kiss and that if anyone could be blamed it was Oz, but on some level he thinks because he messed things up so badly with her (and then Oz added insult to injury) she got fed up with boys and turned to girls. He'd be totally okay with that if they'd just let him watch.

3. Xander is gay. Gay gay gay. Bi, actually, because he's obviously attracted to women, but he's had hands-in-new-places thoughts about Jesse, Riley, Spike, Giles, Oz, Angel, the swim team, and other guys he really doesn't want to admit to. He doesn't know what to do with those thoughts, at least not in most of canon, but he has them. He secretly wonders if they're Willow's fault.

4. Xander and Jesse almost but never quite fooled around. Willow interrupted them the one time they'd halfway kind of sort of agreed to try something, and they never spoke of it again.

5. Deep down Xander thinks that he's not cool enough to attract anyone amazing. Cordelia was a fluke, and Anya fell for him when she was in dire straits as a human. But anyone with any level of power, from being drop-dead gorgeous to just drop-dead, would ignore him before dating him long-term if at all. So when someone like Buffy or Spike shows any interest he doesn't believe it'll last (once he picks himself up off the floor because it's happening at all).

ALL so true. And I'm gonna be giggling over the "it's all Willow's fault" thing for a week. If she hadn't interrupted, that one time with Jesse, then Xander and Willow might never have gotten together at all and then she'd have never gotten so fed up with boys and so it is ALL HER FAULT. (I love her, but in Xander-world it has to all be all her fault because they're just five with each other, except when they're hot for each other. And even then, we're not solidly into first-grader maturity, you know?)

Again with the awwwww *thwap* thing. Is it possible to have your favorite pairing be "thwapable"?

Xander is many things, and I love him to pieces, but he's so not mature about some things. :)

Thwapable seems perfectly normal to me!
