Not fade away.

My father retired earlier this summer, and he and my mother are celebrating by watching Buffy and Angel. Finally. Okay, maybe they're not watching them to celebrate, but they are watching at least an episode a day as a treat. They're up to alternating between Buffy s4 and Angel s1, and they're just warming up to Doyle two episodes before "Hero" and are ready for Giles to have a job again. Every time I talk with them, which is pretty much every day, I get quizzed about something or other. Yesterday it was about if they'll see Harmony again. During Buffy s3 it was about when Spike was coming back. (They're such Spike fans. It's hysterical. Daddy also loves BtVS Wes, which makes me sure that I'm his daughter, if there'd ever been any doubt.) Mom also wanted to know how long Riley was going to be around, since she's not all that fond of him. She does love Xander, though. *pets them*

However, I told them when I handed them the BtVS s1 DVDs that they'll have to make a choice about whether to watch Buffy past s5. I'm a purist (and a really big fan - hello), so of course I think that they should, but on the other hand I'm not sure that they'll enjoy the smutfest of s6 and the lecturefest of s7 after the much tighter core story of seasons one through five. I suppose it'll be easier for them having the break of watching Angel in parallel... well, except for the pain of parts of AtS s3... No, no, I still think they should watch them for the sake of completion. I mean, if nothing else they'd miss some amazing episodes, like "Once More, With Feeling" and "Conversations with Dead People."

What's your opinion? If you're fans on LJ you probably at least like if not love all seven seasons of Buffy, but I've seen a lot of discussion about seasons six and seven being detachable from the rest. Should they keep watching all the way through? If not, why not? What have you told people when you've pimped these shows to them?

Poll But he has a soul now!

Thanks for your help!

And, yes, I still call my father 'Daddy.' You got a problem with that?
