Ok I am looking to take up a musical instrument. I am looking at getting into playing Electric Bass. I know I have friends that play various musical instruments that might have insights on Bass playing etc. Any feedback would be welcome.
Things I am wondering about:
*What's a good place to get lessons? I am not totally sure what play style I want at this point so exposure to various styles would be good. Current bass players that have styles I am interested in are Geddy Lee of Rush, and Flea from RHCP.
*What are good investments in gear amps, instruments etc. for the budget minded.
*What to avoid getting
I would love to eventually get high quality bass.
Again any feedback would be a big help.

I am finding the styles of Victor Wooten, and Stanley Clarke very interesting, I am also listening/watching Youtube videos of them as well as Bootsy Collins and Jaco.
More variations on bass playing than I initially thought.
