Argh!!

So this morning, I finally had the time to get the brakes fixed on my car, but I find myself merely attempting to start the damn thing instead! It attempted to start. It really did. The starter kept chugging along, but apparently the engine just refuses to wake. I hope it's just the weather or that it might just need a new distributor cap or ( Read more... )

I'm sorry, Emy - that sucks ass, and that kind of crap ALWAYS seems to happen over the holidays...
My fingers are crossed for you.

Sucky. I have no idea how old the battery and all that crap are on your car, however, it might be that since it was just sitting without being started for so long that the charge on the battery drained off. They do that. Try giving it a good jump after letting it sit for at least a half an hour hooked up to another car's battery. After that let it keep running by itself for at least a half an hour (yes, its okay to drive it then) so you'll get more than a surface charge. That used to work with my evil old thing. If its not turning over after that... ahh... it's probably something more expensive than the distributer cap, last time my car did that it needed a new regulator.

Oh, the starter is turning fine, as the battery and alternator were replaced this year. The engine just doesn't "catch". After discussing the symptoms with several people, possibilities range from needing new plugs and wires and/or rotor (the thing that sends electricity to the cylinders) to possibly needing a new fuel pump or cleaning the fuel injectors. So I have completely no idea what it might be. (I'm hoping it just needs new plugs and wires. ;) ) Unfortunately, it most likely won't be checked until Monday. Luckily, I've arranged to have transportation through Sunday while I don't work or have class on Monday. :)

Especially after it rains, what helps the few times my car wouldn't start is this:
Keeping your car in park, floor the gas. Sometimes when its flooded that starts it right up. =)
