CURRENT CHARACTERS: None

CHARACTER INFORMATIONSERIES: Teen Titans
NAME: Blackfire/Komand’r
RACE: Tamaranean
AGE: Blackfire’s age is never outright stated in canon. However, she is the older sister and the main Teen Titans in the animated series are said to all be in their mid-teens, so Blackfire is more than likely about 17-19 years old.
CANON POINT: After the “Betrothed” episode in season 3 (I am using the Teen Titans animated series for her canon voice, but touching on portions of her backstory from the original comics that don’t contradict what was presented in the animated series. The Teen Titans GO! comic series based on the show contradicts the show’s canon)
REFERENCES: http://www.titansgo.net/characters.php?id=4
GENDER: Physically and mentally female
APPEARANCE: Like all Tamaraneans, Blackfire’s skin is a golden-orange hue. However, unlike other Tamaraneans, who have red hair (or sometimes reddish brown) and green eyes with lighter green sclera, Blackfire’s hair is straight, black, and waist length and her eyes are violet coloured with white sclera, giving her a somewhat more human appearance than all other Tamaraneans. She is about 5’6” in height and has a slim athletic build (a swimmer’s build is probably the best comparison - plenty of lean muscle mass, but no noticable muscle bulge). She frequently has a smug expression on her face, and when angered her eyes glow bright purple.

PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS:

On the surface, Blackfire seems like a sociable, carefree, adventure-loving party girl who is knowledgable and talented in a very wide variety of areas (even those not native to her world). Underneath all that, there is a darker, angrier and more ruthless side of her who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

As the first born princess in over one hundred years in the matriarchal Tamaranean society, Blackfire should have been honoured and treasured. However, she was born sickly and deformed by her people’s standards and deemed unfit to rule. Additionally, the Gordanians invaded Tamaran and killed three thousand people in Blackfire’s name on the day she was born. Through no fault of her own, Blackfire was linked with that day of infamy. Blackfire grew up feeling angry and inadequate, which was made worse by the birth of her little sister, Starfire - the very model of what a Tamaranean princess was supposed to be.

Because of her past, Blackfire overcompensates for her perceived inadequacies. She makes use of her keen mind to learn everything she can. She wants to stand out and impress people, and has enough social graces to show interest in their hobbies (she talks about chakras and shares poetry with Raven, plays video games with Cyborg and Beast Boy, and teaches Robin a new martial arts move). She has a superficial charm about her that she works to her full advantage. When Blackfire has the positive regard of others, she basks in it. Although Blackfire would prefer to be loved, if she can’t have that she’ll gladly settle for respect and fear. (Notably, the closest word to “nice” in the Tamaranean language translates to “weak”, even though the culture prizes friendship and love). That side of Blackfire comes out rather quickly when her friendly routine isn’t working for her.

Blackfire has an almost obsessive hatred of her younger sister Starfire and views Starfire as her primary obstacle to her birthright as princess of Tamaran. Her anger at her circumstances has been misdirected at and projected onto Starfire. Blackfire also wants to be viewed as better than Starfire, as shown by all the things she strives to excel in, as well as trying to make Starfire’s friends like her more. When sent to negotiate a peace treaty with the Gordanians that Tamaran had been at war with for years, Blackfire negotiated Starfire’s slavery in exchange for peace with the Gordanians. Later when Starfire was free and on earth, Blackfire feigned being nice to her sister only to try and frame Starfire for her own intergalactic crimes. After escaping from prison, Blackfire took over her home planet and tried to marry Starfire off to a slimy slug-like alien.

House preferences in order are: Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff. (I am open to her being placed wherever the mods want her to be)

Slytherin: Blackfire is extremely ambitious and cunning. She wants to rule her planet Tamaran (as is her birthright as first born princess), and isn’t afraid to use ruthless tactics to achieve that end. Alliances, manipulation, theft and deception are all acceptable means to an end. Blackfire is socially savvy enough to know how to make a good impression and understands that it’s a way of getting what she wants. She is resourceful and has a sharp enough mind to recognize when something or someone is potentially useful.

Ravenclaw: Blackfire is quite bright. She keeps herself informed on a very broad range of topics. Information is a more valuable commodity to her than money - money is easily stolen, information must be gained, learned and retained. She is also a brilliant tactician, managing to take over an entire planet of warriors with only herself, an ally, and a fleet of remote-controlled ships. In addition, Blackfire is culturally observant. In contrast to Starfire, who struggles with understanding aspects of Earth, Blackfire easily grasps how to relate to Earth teenagers (at least on a superficial level)

Gryffindor: Blackfire has nerve. She is a risk-taker with a certain disregard for rules, as shown when she talks about traveling through a nebula filled with black holes. Starfire pipes in “Sister, you know travel there is forbidden!” and Blackfire flippantly responds “Most fun things in life are”. Although she recognizes when fleeing is smarter than fighting, she is still brave enough to face opponents who challenge her. She may not be a shining example of chivalry, but in a fight she does fight directly like a warrior rather than sneaking around in the shadows and attacking from behind.

Hufflepuff: The only Hufflepuff trait Blackfire really has is her willingness to work hard. Of all the negative things that could be said about her, “lazy” is not one of them. Otherwise, she’s a very poor fit for this house. Her loyalty is to herself. Fair play? Haha, yeah right. That’s for easily manipulated suckers. Although tolerant of other cultures, Blackfire can’t seem to be tolerant of her sister.

COMMUTER DETAILS: Tapped by Death Eaters.

POSITION: Student

ORIENTATION: Unknown. Blackfire’s sexual orientation is never stated or demonstrated in canon. However, Tamaranean culture is shown in canon in both the animated series and comic canon (to a greater extent than its kid-friendly counterpart) as not having much of a nudity taboo. Clothing is regarded as something meant to adorn the body like jewelry rather than to hide it from view. Tamaraneans also are shown as an emotion-driven warrior people who are not shy with physical affection. Additionally, the Tamaranean race can assimilate language through mouth to mouth contact and do not regard a brief kiss to the lips as anything sexual at all. In short, while there is nothing shown indicating Blackfire’s preferences one way or another, there is some evidence of the cultural attitudes she would have grown up with.

ABILITIES & POWERS:

Blackfire is a skilled tactician and hand to hand combatant. She is a very quick learner and able to understand a wide variety of things. She is socially savvy and an adept manipulator.

Passive powers: As a race, Tamaraneans are very durable and resistant to harsh conditions (such as being able to withstand being in outer space without a space suit, or walking around in a blizzard wearing a sleeveless shirt and short skirt). They are also able to assimilate language through lip contact. When angry, their eyes glow. Blackfire will retain these passive abilities (in the case of the latter, she likely won’t use it unless someone speaks a language she’s unfamiliar with in her presence - she already speaks English fluently)

Active powers: Superhuman strength, flight (at the speed of light), starbolts (purple bursts of destructive/concussive energy) and heat vision (purple energy that’s shot out of her eyes).

Her flight and superhuman strength will translate to her being an excellent Beater in quidditch if she tries out. Her energy based powers will translate to being good at hexes/jinxes/curses, and whenever magical energy has no distinct colours hers will appear as bright purple light. As for Blackfire’s weaknesses, all of the powers in the “active” section are powered by emotions, namely unbridled joy (flight), supreme confidence (super strength) and righteous fury (starbolts and heat vision). If she’s feeling sad or afraid, she won’t fly well and will have difficulty casting a hex/jinx/curse with any power to it (if she manages casting it at all).

WAND: Blackthorn, dragon heartstring, 11 inches, unyielding. Blackthorn is described as being best suited to a warrior, and it is stated that the wands from this wood appear to need to pass through danger or hardship with their owners to become bonded. These traits are well suited to Blackfire who, for all her scheming and manipulation, is still very much a warrior. She has tackled enough dangerous obstacles and endured hardship due to the Gordanians invading her people that she’s a good match for this wand wood. Although she might pretend to play nice, ultimately, she is an unyielding person.

MISC.: Blackfire will not swear in English generally, but she might use some Tamaranean slang now and then, particularly when annoyed.

WRITING SAMPLESFIRST PERSON:

[Blackfire appears on the screen of the magical communicator with a grin on her face and mischief in her eyes. There’s something she’s genuinely curious about, and what people don’t say will be just as important as what they do.]

Who can tell me about the Shrieking Shack? Is it really as dangerous as the rumours say? It sounds fascinating. But then, I’m pretty hard to scare. I am a talented fighter.

[Boastful as it sounds, she’s not lying. One doesn’t grow up on Tamaran without learning to fight.]

So, ladies and gentlemen, got any stories or information about it? Share with the class.

THIRD PERSON:

Blackfire wasn’t sure what angered her more - the fact that her dear sister had the audacity to banish her from Tamaran, or that the Hogwarts magic had somehow stripped her of her natural abilities. Lacking her abilities made her banishment all the more real - without the gifts she was born with, was she even Tamaranean anymore? Ultimately, though, it was the banishment itself that got under her skin. More to the point, it was Starfire being the one to issue said banishment. That simple fact made it more difficult to bear than losing her abilities. Besides, she’d gained new ones that were connected to her wand. Useful and varied, if she took the time to learn how to use them properly.

The prospect of learning many new skills and facts helped to mollify Blackfire. Until she figured out how to use the magic of this world effectively, she wouldn’t be able to do much anyhow. When she did learn how to use it, she’d be an even more formidable adversary than ever. Especially if she found a way to use that power in addition to recovering her own. In the meantime, she looked forward to the lessons. Hogwarts had so many different magical disciplines and she was eager to try them all out.

The air was cold outside, but she wasn’t troubled by it. It didn’t occur to her that if she lost all of her abilities that she should have been. Blackfire had always been able to endure harsh climates and conditions and took it for granted that she could do so. Right up until she saw a couple of her classmates staring at her wearing a sleeveless shirt out in Hogsmeade.

“How are you not cold? It’s bloody nippy out here,” remarked one boy, raising an eyebrow.

“I guess I’m just used to it,” she shrugged. Never one to pass up an opportunity to brag, she added, “I’ve always been pretty tough.”
