Heh. No, really. The appeal, at least for me, is the journey of the survivors. Zombie movies -- by nature of limited time -- never get to show that. At the current point of the series we're a year into the apocalypse, and the characters are all very different people than who they were when they started out. They are all three-dimensional, "real" people and I love watching them evolve (or devolve, in some cases.)
Having said that, if the first three episodes didn't grab you then I think it's doubtful that the rest would.
I should clarify: I didn't actively dislike it; it was fine. Just seemed like the same old, same old. Nothing new from other post-apocalyptic stories, but without the amusing camp and/or interesting twists they often have.
Well, I suppose it's traditional, yes. These are Romero-zombies -- slow-moving but plentiful. There is certainly no camp, and no twists -- like zombies aren't suddenly going to learn to speak or anything like that. The twists come in the form of what happens to the survivors, how they struggle (and sometimes fail) to maintain their humanity in a world that is suddenly very inhumane. This show has made me laugh out loud, gasp, CRY, point and squeal. *I* love it.
Not that slow-moving -- seemed like they could really get a move on when they wanted to. And yeah, I get what you're saying about why you like it, that's what I was hoping for with it. I just wasn't getting enough of that from it, I guess. I don't know. Maybe I'll throw a few more episodes on when I'm cleaning the house or something sometime.
Anyway, keep enjoying it. And be well. Hugs again.
HI! Glad you're well. I'm doing okay. Uphill battles a lot these days but lots of good stuff too.
Not mine either. But I do enjoy the 'how do people make it through under difficult circumstances' stuff, so I thought I'd give it a try since so many people seem to love it so much.
I am currently reading Zone One by Colson Whitehead a writer I didn't know until I started reading this book. I just finished Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy and wanted lighter fare and picked up a zombie book that had good reviews. Well. I got a treat. Literary. Dark humor. Set in lower Manhattan, poking fun (somewhat) at NY, Manhattan, society all while set in a zombie apocalypse. And the man can write. Someone compared him to McCarthy and I can see why - short, slightly startling sentences, but McCarthy only deals in rare sentences that have no equal whereas Whitehead writes well with regular excellence. Okay, I'll stop before I run out of adjectives. If you like zombie novels, this is the great!

Good to know, though. Thanks.

I don't follow zombie stuff -- not my style at all.
