I think you have to see it in the context of the rest of the song "when we arrive, sons and daughters-we'll make our homes/on the water" and "hear all the bombs-fade away"
it's about it's about the end of war and arriving in a new land, and a new home, and they don't have much, so their going to build their homes out of aluminum, because it works, but they are also going to fill they're lives with cinnimon (a luxury) saying "we've only got one life, and it's going to be fun, and we're going to be happy, and this war is going to be over dammit!"
He's actually saying "fill our mouths with cinnamon" not lives. um so basically cinnamon is sweet and it makes me think of being a kid and having a carefree life. I guess I used to eat a lot of cinnamon. And I think that it ties into leaving behind the bombs because to me it's sort of about leaving behind adulthood. As for aluminum, all I know is that it's cheap. Maybe it floats? And that's why they're using it on the water? I have no idea. Maybe he just used it because it kind of rhymes with cinnamon. So yeah.

I thought sorta the same thing, but i wasn't sure what war they were talking about
seeing how the entire album is based on the story of the crane wife and supposedly the tempest
(Which I've never read)
