Never Trust A Squirrel

A True Story.

Yesterday after work, I drove to Woodward Park to enjoy the weather while I finished the book I was reading.

The squirrels at Woodward Park are bold and clever creatures. They know people come and park there to eat lunch, so they'll often come up, especially if your windows are down, to see if you have anything for them.

One such squirrel came bounding over to me. I obligingly hunted around my car for a couple of french fries left over from lunch. He came over and stood on the very edge of the curb, strrrreeeeeetching out to reach the fry and grab it from my hands, then held it and nibbled it all away before strrrreeeeetching out to grab the second one.

I was leaning out the window watching him eat, when this van stops on the road behind me. The man inside rolls down his window. "Hey," he says.

I watch the squirrel, not really paying attention.

"Hey!" he says again.

I look over.

"Don't believe anything the squirrels tell you," he says.

I smile and sort of laugh.

He shakes his head at me. "They're all liars," he says, and drives away.

The End!
