[What I Smell| BPAL Dorian ]
I have to say, I'm glad to have lived when I have. Because of time and circumstances, I got to listen to, watch perform, and meet most of the fascinating musicians and bands spanning from the late Sixties to present. Many of them I interviewed or reviewed; I shot most of them.
While one wouldn't have thought it from the get-go, THE most exciting and amazing band to see LIVE, bar none, used to be Fields of the Nephilim in the mid to late Eighties. I'd always loved their music, so the first time I saw them I could not BELIEVE what they were like live. It blew me away!
That's saying something, considering I've seen bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, The Cult, Killing Joke, Ministry, Underworld [FREUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!], 30 Seconds to Mars, and about a thousand other bands, all at their PRIME. While my days of seeing up to five bands a week are long gone, I still get excited just listening to the Neffs.
They weren't Goth...they were Goff. It was an NME joke that caught on, so whenever I see a modern Goth band claiming to be "Goff", I crack up. The NME had meant it to be an insult.
I've had three songs called "Moonchild" throughout my life that I've loved. There's the one by King Crimson, there's the one by The Mish, and then THIS one...
*grins* For a short while this evening, I had those raving butterflies bashing around in my guts, just as I always had. The years just melted away.
Nechtan :)
