Yeah, it prolly clashes. Then again, I like the smells!
Okay. This is where my life stands right now:
I began this sojourn into perfume on a hunch that this Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab stuff would be GOOD. I saw
misia reviewing about six imps and I was fascinated. Once I went to the website, I was totally sucked in by Elizabeth's brillance just in her choices, her layout, and her writing and selection of quotations. I immediately made an order and I think I ordered something like 66 sample imps and splurged on big 10 ml bottles of The Red Queen, Nocturne, Marie, Two Five & Seven, and I THINK Glasgow and O. I'm a little vague on that...it was June 2005 after all. The wait was then 60 days and I had never smelled ANY BPAL at all. I fully expected Nocturne to be my Signature Scent.
I'm Aquarian; I'm an All or Nothing sort of gal. In for a penny, in for a pound, you know.
Somewhere around day thirty-five I panicked and began to fret. SOMEHOW I had forgotten about my asthma and all my allergies, and I began to remember how all those modern perfumes seemed to make me physically ILL. But I was sweetly adopted by
originalwacky and she sent me a handful of LE imps, including the then-hotly sought after Miskatonic University shortly thereafter, which made me calm down. I discovered immediately that these natural perfume oils were not triggering ANY bad reactions. (At least, not until the "reissues" of 2006 started to show up. I don't know what changed, but while I could gladly BREATHE Beltane 2005 as my life's own breath, Beltane 2006 gives me a migraine AND sinusitis all at once. NOT GOOD!!! Not good AT ALL!!!)
There's maybe about fifty more GCs I want to purchase imps of, but 2006 became the year I plumped for a lot of LEs and other bottles. I began to swap and use EBay and all those other deadly-to-the-savings-account means of obtaining more scents within my selected scent ranges of Foody/Autumnal Fruits/Ambers/Honeys/Roses/Violets/Vanillas.
It was LAST Spring when I joked about it would be bad when I found myself purchasing FURNITURE to house my BPAL. While I have not yet done QUITE that, I have these chests of drawers that are mini-furniture, and I've confided in
topknot that I would dearly love what I've been calling An Apothecary Counter full of drawers where I can house my perfume oils and decant/blend things on the top. I am creeping closer and closer to that dark day when I will be so utterly besotted with perfumery that I should surely just begin to blend my own.
To make it more fun, I shared BPAL liberally with all my friends. I enabled strangers. I've spread my love of BPAL among many, and they're off passing it on to others. I started arranging for Care Packages of perfumes and other goodies to land on the doorsteps of people who are feeling down. I've loved every minute of that!
But I have to confess...I'm on 'way too close acquaintance with Barb at Eden Botanicals. I push fractionated coconut oil on people who don't even know me. And last week, I won an EBay auction for 8 oz of single-note Honey fragrance oil for an outrageously cheap price ($1 an ounce). It smells fantastic and is strong enough that a drip I wiped off of a bottle's lip onto a paper napkin made the entire first floor of my house smell like honey for at least four days.
Now I've found SEVERAL purveyors of fragrance and essential oils with EBay shops and I've now crossed the line into Insanely Into Perfume! I just bought 8 oz of Blackberry Jam oil! Another 8 oz of Blackberry Sage (does anyone remember the wonderful Republic of Tea Blackberry Sage?)! And a DIFFERENT single-note Honey scent!
I had already planned on making this The Year of the Honey Oil Search. I added the Blackberry onto the shortlist of What I NEED since nearly every bath product and perfume I love seems to have Blackberry in it. Honestly! I never knew I was into Blackberries until mid-2006!!!
While I know I can put these oils in my oil burners and I can enable even MORE friends (as well as tweak some of my perfume layering experiments and possibly blend scents of my own), I find myself thinking: I have TWO POUNDS OF OIL coming to my house!!
TWO POUNDS? Thirty-two ounces of the Good Stuff!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*wipes brow* Okay, I'm okay. Really, I am.
To date, I have not made ONE PENNY off of this hobby. I've given away enough perfume to hide the stink of a very large camel and then some. And yet, I can't express to you how HAPPY just catching a whiff of a favourite fragrance can be, or how mood-altering.
Um...to those about to sniff, I salute you! *giggles*
[I have all these expensive French perfumes just sitting in the back of a closet...]
Love you,
Nechtan :)
EDIT: I'm going to post a Friends Only post in the near future where if you want some of these new things I'm getting (freebie), you can let me know. I'm going to have too much to keep for one person, but I'm only sharing with friends. *grins*
