Underneath polluted skies
I walked alone on those Jersey nights and I
Saw the boardwalk start to fall
The emptiness starts to drown the quiet corners of this town and I
Late last night
I made my plans
It was the only thing I felt I could do
Said goodbye
To my best friend
Sometimes there's no one left to tell you the truth
Well, what is there to say about the greatest meeting of ska bands since aqua met bats? Since Suburban met Legends? More over, since the Fish met.. okay, forget it. The show was good. Here are the highlights.
Firstly, Reel Big Fishies didn't play Party Down and I was bummed out. There was some funny stuff, though. They told us they had retired 'Beer' and got boos and someone threw something at the stage, haha. Aaron made a joke about his skill level being a little higher and playing it now would demean his abilities. Anycase, later, they were like 'here's a song we retired.. a song we swore we'd never play again... Stairway to Heaven' and then Beer started.
They did play some of their poppy, trendy, fun songs. SR, of course, and Another F.U. Song. I had a blast, even though they didn't nab all the best songs. They opened with Sell Out.. and, naturally, I started skanking. I was alone for a few seconds, maybe thirty, and kinda bummed 'cause there weren't any pits close by. And then this chick grabs my shoulder and turns me around and starts to dance with me, which was funny. Then Danny joined in and we had a skank party. =D Well, not a trashy one. A fun, ska-kid one.
Taylor ended up going in place of my dad who was going to go in place of Mike who got sick. Mallory complained a bit, not wanting to go, but she caved in because she really did wanna go she just had work. She came, she had a blast (ska will do that to you).
Streetlight's set was good. They opened up with Yankee Doodle. It was probably the most amazing instrumental piece of the night, haha. They started off with horns.. then drums came in and then guitars and it kept getting increasingly rocky...ier.. and fun.. and it was just so sweet. Anyway, they played music and I enjoyed it. The best, as anyone will attest to, was the Point/Counterpoint with Keasby Nights suddenly thrown in. Sweet transition, good jam. It ended and Taylor was like 'was that one song?' To which I was all 'psh, bitch please'
Their set was real short, though. Naturally. Against All Authority played first. Woot... I guess.. if you're.. into that.. which.. I wasn't.
Reel Big Fish's set was pretty good, despite some of the nonsense of not playing Party Down. We saw ol'Jonny X-mas and Scott and Derek outside before the show. It was funny 'cause I couldn't think of what to do so I just saluted them.. and then we shook hands and passed pleasantries before they got some grub. Gay. But, hey, I'll write about it. I don't care.
Streetlight had light interaction but lots of energy. Reel Big Fish had a good bit of story and banter and fun. I mean, come on, they're just sweetness incarnate. Aaron took off his jacket, which I've never seen him do before. I'm sad that ol'Mattwong ain't wif da gang no mo'.. but, I get it.
Less Than Jake ran their set like a gameshow. Their amps were up a little loud, though, and that bothered me the whole time. Taylor had a good time. Mallory left (as did half the crowd) before LTJ came on. It happens, I guess. They played all the songs I knew, which wasn't many, and several that I didn't.
Their encore was The Rest of My Life (and it was very cool) and then two other songs that I didn't know. THe gameshow bit was funny and the audience interaction was funny. They had the people play like a.. splinko.. game.. I don't know. You drop a disc and it falls into a certain slot, after bouncing a bit, and lands on a CD.. and then they'd play three or so songs off that CD. Then they did the Price Is Right style spinny thing and it was the same deal. The questions were a touch goofy, but they had loads of energy and were jumping around all over.
Taylor knew more of their songs than I did, haha, and he kept dancing and jumping up and down like a silly goose. I didn't know he knew of these bands and still knew lyrics. From what I gathered, he had a good time.. and that's.. nice.
I was way tired today.. and still am. Algebra is hard after a ska show. Haha. I was fighting not to write lyrics and draw little ska kids dancing around. Got the homework done, though, and bought a calculator.
Only a few days 'till Dan is gone and I'm a sad puppy.. all the bros will have deserted me. And by all I mean... Ray and Dan.. since Dominic is supposedly coming down within the soonness. We shall see.
Time to jump back on the Film band wagon. I'm such a slacker.
If you won't forgive me
The rest of my life
Let me apologize while I'm still alive
I know it's time to face
All of my past mistakes
It's going to kill me for the rest of my life.
It's going to kill me for the rest of my life
