One week later

It's been one week since I've officially moved to Winchester and started my new job in Front Royal. At first, it was hard being away from my friends and family back in Richmond, most of all Teddy who I had grown so accustomed to having around and seeing every day. I know that I cried Monday night feeling overwhelmed and alone after I got back from dropping him off in Richmond. I came in Tuesday not sure of what to expect when I started my job but I found everyone to be extremely polite (more so than your usual "welcome to the office" manner) and that I had a nice level of privacy if desired. I found quickly that I had a lot of catching up to do and I was already thrusted into a couple of projects as soon as I was ready. I made a day trip down to Charlottesville and realized my place in the world as I felt like a kid eating at the adult table during Thanksgiving.

But by Friday I had stopped getting lost coming home from work in Winchester, found that I have an hour to kill for lunch which is weird since I'm so used to being paid hourly and so prefer to eat lunch at my desk and watch some TV shows online, began to love my place and realize how comfortable it is, and finally that it is hard to go without cable or more importantly internet for a week. I am so grateful to have it back.

I've yet to do any exploring since I don't get my first paycheck until Feburary 6th. I have however been lucky enough to have my parents buy me a new couch and coffee table for my place, thereby making it complete. I have also been lucky with having Teddy come see me this past weekend along with Lauren and Eric who helped me in my Ikea expedition to get the couch here and spend my first dinner out at Brewbaker's - it was amazing. The downtown walking mall right across my apartment is full of cute shops and restaurants along with a couple of bars and a Dollar General in case of emergencies :) The 7-11 is also nearby for a quick pick-me-up (I started that kind of habit because of Brie and her Red Bull cravings).

I didn't get to go home and celebrate Lunar New Year with my family this year which is the first and it really saddened me but one phone call and a promise to see my parents next weekend cured me of my melancholy. I head to Richmond next weekend to see my family, spend a little time with Teddy when he's not working, and celebrating Brie's 25th birthday for sure :) I know that my car however will need to take a break from all this driving or else it'll break on me. I just need it to last long enough for me to be able to make car payments and get a new car.

I'm surely growing up faster than I figured but I like where I am. I still have some work to do and one last project to finish and leave behind me before I can move forward. I am just hoping that Teddy can find a job nearby me and move up here soon enough.

Ugh. Growing up.
