yuletide!

Signups for Yuletide have already started, and I'm not ready! Although I do have an appropriate icon, courtesy of liviapenn.

I can't decide what to request. I've got two things I'm sure of, and then a handful of others that I can't really settle on. And part of that is because I've been extremely lucky when it comes to yuletide in previous years, not just in the stories I've gotten in the yuletide challenge, but in having people write NYR stories based on my previous requests, as well. So a big yay to that, even if it's making me indecisive now.

And I can't decide what to offer, either. Nothing new there, because I do this dance every year. I'm making two lists, one of every single fandom from the list that I'm familiar with and could possibly write, and one with the fandoms that I feel entirely confident of and comfortable with and could possibly write in my sleep. The first list is at 116, and the second list is... a lot shorter. Like, a really lot.

I'm leaning more towards the sensible, or is it conservative, side of things this year. There are lots of books on the list of fandom that I know well, that are among my favorites even, that I still won't offer, just because I can't imagine what kind of story a person would tell in that universe; to me, it's finished, closed.

On the other hand, being conservative in offering fandoms is probably what has led to me writing Coldfire for yuletide three years running. Not that I don't love Coldfire, but it would be nice to branch out.

So I'm all torn between "live dangerously! offer lots of stuff!" and "omg remember that you have to actually write the story!"

Hee, I just went nostalgia-hunting in my lj archive, and found, on November 4, 2003:

There's a small and obscure fandom secret santa thing going on, while we tell of yuletide treasure, that looks like it's going to be fun. Go sign up! (Me? No, I don't think so. [...])

Uh huh. Right. No further mention until October 19, when it's clear that yes, I did indeed sign up. And I kind of feel like I've been signed up permanently ever since.

yuletide
