I've always gone with what sounds right - never thought about any special formation rules.

Avon/Vila
Spock/McCoy
Bodie/Cowley
Sam/Al
Eroica/Major
MacGyver/Murdoc
Picard/Bagoas
Duncan/Methos
Richie/Methos
Hawkeye/Mulcahy

No rule becomes apparent, except perhaps that "if your name begins with M, I'll usually put you second"... ;-)

That seems just as reasonable a method as anything else, really. :)

Eroica/Major, hmm? I'd call them Dorian/Klaus. Or possibly Klaus/Dorian, although... okay, I have no idea what I'm basing that on. *g*

But it'd be Nechayev/Picard? Coming from Buffy, that seems weird to me--as if Picard should always come first, unless he's paired with Kirk, in which case either way would make equal sense to me. Just like it's Buffy/Giles and Willow/Kennedy, but I honestly don't think the logic separates Willow/Giles and Giles/Willow, although the former seems more natural to me.

I've thought about this. Is it Xander/Faith or Faith/Xander. What if one is slashing minor characters, like Amy Madison and Jenny Calendar?

I'd definitely put Nechayev/Picard, if I wrote it, which admittedly seems unlikely. *g*

Thinking about it, I'd write it Faith/Xander myself, even though NB's in the credits and ED's not. Of course, I like Faith, so she's the star in my mind. And I've never written anyuthing from Xander's POV. (Now that I think of it, I hardly ever use a male POV. Huh.)

It seems as if there's almost an "imaginary" ranking in BtVS. Buffy outranks everybody. (Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a pairing where she came last outside of Buffyverse1000.) Faith is up there as a member of the Chosen Two. Then the Scoobies. Some of their enemies and allies. The activated potentials. The Council.

By this logic, it'd be Amy/Kennedy, not Kennedy/Amy. Of course, by saying the ranking is "imaginary" one is basicluy admitting one doesn't know the rules, which is pretty much what this discussion was designed to figure out in the first place.
