Talking to myself

Oct 14, 2002 13:15

I have a cold. I'm sure you all wanted to know that.

thete1 decided to start a meme, and that seems to have gone well; people like to talk about their stories and themselves. I'm certainly no exception.

What do you think your last five stories say about you?

I was torn between last five finished and last five posted, and decided I had to find out if there was really that much difference.

Last five finished, all boybands all the time:

1, untitled juni vignette for eponymous, third person, present tense, sort of. Justin is confused.
2, untitled JC/Justin, third person, past tense, smut. Justin isn't confused.
3, untitled Chris/Lance for mlynne, third person, past tense. Chris has a cold, and Lance isn't confused, either.
4, RPF, past tense, some kind of smut, more pairings than you can shake a stick at. The guys talk about fantasies, and Justin gets a bit carried away.
5, Parabola, also sorta for mlynne, JC/Lance, second person, present tense. Wistfulness, of a morning.

Last five edited and posted to the site:

1, Pale green, mostly for Ellen, Harry Potter, third person, past tense. Harry acts on impulse, so does Snape, confusion ensues.
2, RPF.
3, Parabola.
4, Later, nsync snippet, third person, past tense, smarm. Justin can't sleep.
5, World would end, boyband crossover, third person, past tense, hints of smut. Nick sees angels, and Justin sees Nick.

So what does this say about me? Well, it seems I try to bribe people into being my friends by writing stories for them. I have a new fandom. I'm relatively productive in my new fandom. I still like third person, past tense best of all, even though I sometimes try to get adventurous. I'm trying to remember how to write smut. I'm apparently quite fond of Justin.

All this stuff is very short. I haven't written anything long since I finished Meet another early in 2001. Don't know what's up with that. Most of it is relatively high on the candy scale. Not a whole lot of angst, not a whole lot of violence, not a whole lot of smut. If there's a theme here, it's possibly the fanfic equivalent of easy listening.

Theme. Theme. Hmm. Repression! Unacknowledged desires. Things that remain unspoken. Ambiguous silences. And also a whole lot of straighforward acknowledging of just about everything, in the other half of the stories.

[Edit: I think what this really says about me is that I have trouble coming up with titles.]

On the friendsfriends list I came across another surveyish sort of thing that started with Describe me in three words and went on for another fifteen or twenty questions. I wouldn't answer twenty questions about even my most dearly beloved friends without bribes, but if anyone wants to try to describe me in three words, I would be amused. "Has a cold" is cheating.

Hot chocolate and experiments in site redesign sounds about right for the rest of the day.
