What kind of kitten are you?

All this talk of this and that -ista got me wondering. I came late to fandom and missed out the time where there was a lot of internal disagreement among the Spike fans, so I'm wondering were you see yourselves in those categories? What was your favorite version of Spike and your take on his development:

Wishidneverheardofitista. I like that. :)

During the show, I liked all incarnations of Spike, but ultimately Souled Spike was my favourite, which is why I'd now characterise myself as a Soulled Redemptionista. That said, I'd have happily taken Unsouled Redemption if it had been on the table.

I wish I could be a wise Resignista myself, but I find I'm not build for it, so I had to add the wishidneverheardofitista option :).

My favorite bits of Spike are during the soulless redemption phase, I have a thing for characters fighting battles they can't win. I loved how hard it was for him to overcome his nature.

But then they just put a full stop within with SR and after that the soul was the only option imho. So I'm very pleased they went there and take happily what it gave me, but a part of me regrets that they could let him struggle on.

I always felt that Spike's soulless redemption was a bit sacrificed to Angel's soul/nosoul issues.

Oh absolutely. David Fury as much as said that they didn't want to undercut Angel's specialness in any way.

Figures. Though I really think that was a mistake, because seeing Angel really head on facing why his monster is so particularly vicious would have actually made him more special to me.

I liked what it did to him that Spike got his soul on his own and I would have liked to see him react to Spike getting by without one.

I like every incarnation of Spike. All of 'em! As for the comics, I have newly discovered optimism, so today I'm a Positivista, but ask me again in a month and who knows?

Hehe, I like them all too, but I do have to admit that I have my favorites :)

I lost my ability to regard the comics as part of the story I'm afraid. When I read the last issue and it even had comparatively decent Spike, I realized that even the best possible last 6 issues would not make it a good story for me. And that in the end it wasn't what happened to the characters anymore, but more the logical gaps in the storytelling.
I'm kind of a closeted Posetivista though, because I think they have a point, just not one that redeems the story in my eyes.

"I lost my ability to regard the comics as part of the story I'm afraid."

Yes, that's it exactly!

I came into the show during S4's original airing (Something Blue, specifically), and so the version of Spike I was first presented with the he'd-rip-your-face-off-if-he-could-but-sweet-lord-he's-adorable-when-he's-in-love version first. I love all of Spike's various incarnations (okay, I may have an a slightly more special place in my heart for nerdy adorkable William, but I heart them all).

There's no version of him I don't like, but I do have to admit I play favourites and desperately in love Spike, who's still evil, just gets to me every time.

He's just fascinating like that- because everything we're told is that a vampire like Spike is IMPOSSIBLE, yet there he is, f*cking up everyone's preconceived notions and confusing the hell out of everyone. XD

Exactly! And it played so well into the punk rebell role he was set up in. He breaks the rules, even the rules of evil. :)

:D

We should start a flamewar out of jealousy with the Neverheardofitistas! They'd never see it coming!

I like them all pretty equally, and will quite happily write any of them. It depends on the theme, background, or relationship I am exploring. I'm a bit of a history geek, so do love to indulge in a little Fanged Four or Spru to play in that playground.

I'm certainly WishIneverheardofitista, as it is only fit now for crack and moaking. Much like Twiglight the books and movies, even if I've never read a book or seen a movie.

I like the variety too, though I do have my favorites. But fanged four is definitely one of them, also because there you have Spike struggling in the opposite direction, trying to be evil enough to match Angelus.

I don't know why I read them. When the first volume came out I gave it to three of my rl Buffy fan friends, of one whom declined in advance and two declared it didn't work and never looked at it again. Well at least it consoles me that I have smart friends.
