Coast to Coast by train

It has been ages since I last posted and there have been several memorable experiences, but I'm not going to try to catch up now. Instead, I'll mention our next upcoming memorable experience.

Sunday Judy and I are taking the train from Florida to California (arriving Thursday). We will take three different trains on this epic journey.

We leave Kissimmee, FL on train 98 (Silver Meteor) where we have accessable bedroom accomodations to Washington, DC arriving Monday morning. Monday afternoon we will have an accessable bedroom on train #29 (Capitol Limited) overnight to Chicago, IL. Then we check Judy's wheelchair as checked luggage and board train #5 (California Zephyr) Tuesday afternoon for a two day trip in a roomette across the Great Plains, the Rockies, the Great Basin, and the Sierra Nevada to Emeryville, CA arriving Thursday evening.

After a hotel night in Emeryville, we pickup our rental car and head for the Sonoma County Wine Country Weekend. Then after a couple of days of food and wine events we will head for the San Francisco International Airport for our Sunday flight home to Florida. We will arrive Sunday night in Tampa, FL and rent a car for the trip home, said car to be dropped off the next day at the Orlando International Airport from which I can take public transit back to Clermont, FL.

I'm looking forward to the train journey with both excitement and apprehension as I'm am told that the daytime portions of the California Zephyr route from Denver to California are very scenic, but I'm afraid I may be exhausted on arrival after a four day trip even in sleeper accommodations.
