good news

Not very much of it in the media, but I enjoyed these 2 articles:
1. Hope House - Summer camp behind bars: Program connects kids, incarcerated dads

2. Cafe Reconcile, New Orleans - "Ten years ago Café Reconcile opened as a small, non-profit restaurant sitting in a dismal section of Central New Orleans. This café serves food, but it’s also about saving young boys and girls from the poverty and violence that plagues their neighborhoods..."

It would be so cool to be a part of one or both of these programs. I've thought a lot about being a "nun". I'm not Catholic, but I would like to devote my life to service.. in my imagination, anyway.

Reality always has logistics... like how to pay my mortgage. ;)

In other news...

The parents may be coming to visit in a few weeks. Guess I need to decorate. I also need to buy a dvd player and a digital converter. (Yeah, my house is pretty sparse.)

I un-decorated last year so my walls could be painted, and then left things bland when I put the house up for sale. "It looks like you're just passing through," my neighbor said. I just shrugged. I hardly live there, anyway. It's just where I sleep (and cook). I am definitely not a "nester".

Ever wonder why your workplace is so boring?

We're on standby for a telecon while the host is out for a fire drill. I queued up The Ohio Players, but thought better of it. Nothing like a little "Fire" and "Smoke". ;D
