hetalia[ Personality ] :
Norway is as cold and mysterious as his country and his personality seems to be as icy as Norwegian winters tend to be. He doesn’t interact much with others and remains a stoic, quiet figure that is to be listened to if he decides to speak. Denmark considers him a best friend though it seems to be a bit one-sided as Norway never really seems to consider Denmark as good of a friend as Denmark considers Norway. As well, he seems to have a bit of a brother complex when it comes to Iceland. While he doesn’t show it often, he does care a lot about his family and those close to him. In fact, his family are one of the few people he’ll be a bit more open to as he even goes as far as to tease them.
He can come across as a bit harsh and snarky, but that’s simply how he appears to others. Often, he also seems to find affection to be rather embarrassing and, as shown with Denmark, has no trouble strangling someone with their own tie if he feels the need to in order to avoid having to deal with it - even if it’s from a friend or family. As well, Norway is a nation of few expressions. Most of the time one can find him looking rather blank, bordering on uninterested if one was to try and put a bit of emotion into Norway’s look.
Given his history, he also seems a bit weary with people at first and earning his trust is something that is a bit hard to do. He tends to be a bit of a realist and rather blunt about things. It doesn’t matter who one is - his best friend, family, or his worst enemy - they are all pretty much addressed with the same sort of airy aloofness and blunt, sometimes short responses. However, it is possible to get past that as if someone seems intelligent enough or has earned a sort of friendship with him he’s more than willing to engage in decent conversation.
Norway also has a fondness for “imaginary” creatures. He has a deep love for fairytales and can interact with mythical creatures, much like England. This adds a bit of whimsy to him and sort of softens his harsher edges a bit as one can see the special place that they have in his life.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
…ICELAND. Dammit, Iceland. He cares about Iceland and considers him to be a younger brother but still can be rather short and irritated with him. Iceland can be both a strength and a weakness as he does try to look out for the other nation as best as he can.
His stoic, cold personality can be a bit of a weakness as it doesn’t allow others to get too close to him and can be a bit off-putting.
Being a bit of a recluse, he doesn’t really care for interaction with others and can take it or leave it. This sometimes makes things a bit awkward as he can enjoy silence as well as he can enjoy a good conversation.
Norway can be rather stubborn when it comes to things as well (just look at his history with Sweden when he resisted for a while, for example, or his resistance against Germany during WWII). This stubbornness can be either a strength or a weakness, depending upon what it is he’s being stubborn against.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
He’s a country? Plus, he seems to be in the company of a fairy and a troll most of the time. In fact, he often has the troll do his dirty work for him. He also has a curl that floats independently by the side of his head and said curl has a dot that floats independently above it. While not said in canon what they mean, the curl is totally Svalbard and the dot is Jan Mayen (though this is just popular fanon but it totally makes sense).
…he also has no official “human” name, though Himaruya has speculated on some possible names.
Don’t get between him and his coffee, either.
[ Sample ] :
A recent APHDR thread with Iceland. [ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : Can he at least have his fairy? It has no special powers of its own other than being a fairy. The troll would probably be a bit too much but the fairy is small and all. And can only be seen by Norway (unless, of course, I guess one really believes in such things) so it’d probably seem like he’s talking to himself.
Also, going on what was mentioned above with Norway not having an official “human” name, I’d like to keep it that way. He’s simply Norway. It seems to fit better with his mysteriousness and all.
