Tuesday Top Ten: Drummers

Feb 08, 2011 22:40

OK, this one is just a quick rundown of the first drummers who pop into my head as "wow! AWESOME!" I'm sure if i went through all my CDs and looked up who does what percussion on the liner notes, i'd list dozens or hundreds, perhaps. I got this idea from catching a clip of Neil Peart on VH1 - very cool.

1. Stuart Elliott (The Alan Parsons Project, did most of the songs that the drums melt me)
2. Steve Murphy (met him when he was playing with Alan's Live Project v2)
3. Neil Peart (Rush)
4. Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
5. Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac - mmmm "Tusk")
6. Alex Van Halen (Van Halen)
7. Phil Collins (self, Genesis)
8. Simon Phillips (Tears for Fears, MANY others, also on Alan's "All Our Yesterdays")
9. Ron Welty (The Offspring)
10. Danny Thompson (Alan Parsons Live Project v3)

There are also several honorable mentions...
Scott Holder
Moby
Jonathan Moffett (Michael Jackson's tour drummer - saw Jonathan at one of Alan's events)
whoever played Blondie's drums and/or drum machine for "Heart of Glass" and "Atomic" (hehe)
ABBA's drummers
the drummers for Mannheim Steamroller
all the drum players who were with Serpentine Brown - i even got to jam with them once!
a guy who was playing on an electronic drum set at Guitar Center in Los Angeles
a ton of people from the drumming conventions at The Mountain years ago

godfrey john steve manny, alan parsons, moby, music, ttt, drums
