Franz Ferdinand @ Greek Theater

Went to the Franz Ferdinand concert last Friday at the Greek Theater, the first (?) of their tour in US only 3 days after their new album You Could Have It So Much Better was released. I tried to warm up to the new songs prior the concert, but hearing them live is just so much better. The FF boys are all so lean and slim, nonstop thumping their legs with their skinny legs. It was impossible NOT to move along their dancy punchy beat the entire night. The set lists include all of their hits from their debut album. When the songs from both albums were perform together, the materials from the new album shows more range. "Walk Away" was a surprisingly tender number echoing the 90s Britpop ballad. Though the crowd cool off a little whenever new songs came up...we need more time. ^^;; All songs sound really great, except for "Auf Aschse" which sounded bit thin. "The Dark Of The Matinée" is the best. Though toward the end, the vocalist was out of breath and his voice was breaking up in "Michael" (pity). He revived at Encore and played four more songs, ending the show with brilliant "This Fire". The guitar was amazingly fast and sharp. Though the 80s revival get a bit over the top as the vocalist was doing the shooting pointing finger gesture...^^;;

There were two opening acts: TV on the Radio and Cut Copy. I arrived late so I only caught the former (TV on the Radio), a 3 men band from Brooklyn whom I've only heard a few songs. They sound alright as the sound was a bit muffled (they meant to sound atmospheric). The songs are epic and shoegazer-ish hence quite zzz...

The parking was quite an experience. The Greek Theater locates inside the quiet and upscale Griffin Park in the hill. We have to stack parked our cars on the grass area, meaning...there'd be rows of car parked trapping yours behind and you won't be able to leave until they left. In our random luck, it just so happen they directed us to park at a spot where no car's behind. So we just took off. Here comes with 2nd part: they closed off the downhill route out and force all of us going over the long dark scary curvy hill (my nightmare!). And That mountain road is usually closed up at Sunset. What a troublesome place to held bigger scale events.

Two more concerts to go this month: Gang of Four and Bauhaus~ :D
