(from all sides)
I work so hard to bring this team together; to make this team into a winning team. Team ethics and spirit are top priority. This season has been unbelievably amazing. We somehow have found a connection that brings tears to my eyes, warmth to my heart and the Bruisers to another championship. This team is comprised of very different, unique, strong, fun and beautiful women and I feel so privileged to be their captain. The pride I have for them is overwhelming. Another reason I fight so hard for them. And for them to have faith in their soft spoken captain like they have had, it makes me need to fight harder. I don’t care if I’m seen as a “tantrum” thrower. It’s for them; I’m standing up for them. They deserve nothing but the most I can give. They give me their heart on the rink, it’s the least I can do in return.

Practice: Seeing that derby demands so much of our time, I find it hard to ask for more time from my Bruisers. Extra team practices are not a luxury Bruisers have, so I have asked all my girls to please come to Tuesdays & Wednesdays practices and always try to skate w/ a fellow Bruiser. As our point spread/win/loss record shows, it works for us. I’d rather save that extra time for a Bruiser dinner or scrimmage viewing, bitch fest. Open communication and team bonding has proven to be an unwavering asset to the success of the Bruisers.

Motivation: Bruiser mentality is that monkey on your back. Bruisers “want you to push it babe, better make it fast or else I’m gonna get pissed”; push you, to keep you from giving up. We believe in each other and we will be right behind you pushing you on, to take your game to the next level. I tried to choose girls for this team that respond well to that. I envision this team, when we take the line; it’s in the menacing, bad ass, movie slow motion amazing ness that you would see in a sports movie. I am that gay! (Insert laughter here)

Growth: This season we were able to pick up some new girls. And although we lost some of them, one newbie, Ginger Vicious, has risen far beyond my expectations. When she was able to skate w/ Bam Bam, An OG Bruiser and all around amazing woman, I was elated! Ginger has improved by leaps and bounds in such a short period. Too see her commit to every hit, take a hit, and keep going, holding that line; Even jamming when she didn’t even expect too. Embodies what Bruisers are all about. Chi Chi Roni. I have never seen a skater, a person, work as hard as her. I feel lucky to have her as a friend and as a bruiser. What an amazing asset to this league.

TCT: We all fully support and do whatever is needed to help a fellow Bruiser strive & accomplish becoming a part of the AZRD Pride, Tent City Terrors. It’ how the Bruisers roll. Deep. All in.

Put up or shut up, haters can lick it up.

AZRD por Vida, Bruisers la familia.
