Au Revoir, France

Overall Best Thing About France: Dogs in stores, dogs in restaurants, dogs in cars, dogs on vacation...I heart French dogs.

Most Frustrating Thing About France: The 500 foot deep toilets that sound like you're pissing a waterfall and make you afraid to go in the night.

French (European, I guess) Custom That I Despise: Kissy kissy every time you meet, say goodbye, eat chicken on a Thursday, or whatever reason...I have had a couple of miscalculations on the timing of the other person and...well, it gets akward.

Most Pictoresque Experience in France: This afternoon, the whole picture of the family...Claude shelling peas at the table on the porch, Jean-Marc doing yardwork, Marine stretched out in the sun, and me in sunglasses, a hat, and my hand never farther than 3 ft from my sunscreen sitting with my feet in the pool.

Most Satisfying Experience in France: When I realized that I knew what was going on without translating in my head. There's nothing more beautiful than the sudden comprehension of a language. That moment where a gauffre is just a gauffre and nothing else. Even more beautiful when I realized that I got there about 2 months faster than I did in Spain.

Au Revoir is right. I will be back in southern France again...no doubt about it. I've never been so in love with a place and its customs before. I'm attached to Spain for its beauty and the language but I never felt like i could ever have a place with the people there. Here I do. I had a lot of fun with this family, despite the racism the animal abuse, and the food poisoning. That's how much I love this place. All that, and I'm still coming away knowing that nothing could keep me from returning.
